In my opinion, Hyundai have done themselves a complete disservice renaming the SR to N line AND making the N-line look SO similar to the N.They have diluted the N brand significantly.

A lot of non-car buyers ( you know what I mean ) that may have considered an N in DCT mode later this year, will now be able to buy an “almost” N car with DCT now. 95% of those buyers will not be able to tell the difference performance, braking and handling wise driving the car to and from work in the city, so why spend $12-15k more for an N.

Unlike most -line cars, like the R, S and ST line, the N-line i30 actually has a much better engine than the standard i30, with 150kw, which makes it much closer to the N, and therefore more likely to cannabilize sales from the N. Reduced sales means less profit, less r and d, and less of a rush to bring out new N product...

Sad face ☹️

The N line has the same engine as the SR which my son drives (2018 model) and that goes pretty hard, he could have waited for the N line but as he said it’s the N when your not having a N and I would rather drive a SR at least that’s a real model.

Agree.... but the SR is no more...

To add to it, the N line models have rear seat air vents and basically more interior goodies then the actual N, like a better 'infinity' stereo system! wtf to that

I thought it was the driving experience that mattered?
Which is much, much better in the N (check review of N-line here)

There are many visual/auditory differences on the N:

-Much cooler and bigger tail pipes
-Triangle break light
-Red trim front/back
-Better SOUND!!!
-Red brake calipers
-Black trims on side of car (vs chrome on N-line)
-Bigger rear spoiler
-***
Basically looks/sounds meaner and cooler.

*** (May be other more subtle differences to...;))

I hear it goes faster too...

Oh I agree with you lads, I know what I want . Corsa59 has valid point with this. The N line may deter 'some' people away from the N because it has all the bells and whistles and almost looks like the N, yet not the pricetag and also the availability of the DCT.

I respectfully (and strongly ;)) disagree with you that I30N-line has all the bells and whistles...

Nearly the same config as my N. The N (performance) would cost 3k bucks more than the N-Line which would be eaten by the N..

Maybe prices in real are about 24-26k.

Okay, you would save lots of money for wheels and fuel ;)

I believe that's kinda country specific thingy. Not sure why base i30N is so much more expensive than base i30 N-line (by A$13,905, 45% difference) in Australia, but it's not always the case.

First off, 1.6T models have existed for a few years before they get the name 'N Line' (with some cosmetics) and the price difference between 1.6T model and N is usually somewhat lower than that.

US (although actual price difference is larger than this since 1.6T models almost never sold at MSRP but JSN do)
Base Veloster N - $26,900 (Performance $29,000)
Base Veloster Turbo - $22,900 (17.4% difference)
Base Elantra Sport - $22,600 (19.0% difference)
Base Elantra GT Sport - $23,250 (15.6% difference)

Korea (unlike the US, this is an actual difference since Hyundai barely gives any meaningful discount on any models in Korea)
Base Veloster N - ₩29,110,000 (with performance package ₩31,070,000)
Base i30 N Line - ₩23,790,000 (22.3% difference)
Base Veloster Sport - ₩21,600,000 (34.7% difference)
Base Avante(=Elantra) Sport - ₩19,640,000 (48.2% difference)

And the base 1.6T models usually do not have much of options. If you add them all, price will go up (very close to N). For example, a fully loaded i30 N line is slightly more expensive than Veloster N + performance package + multimedia package in Korea. In Germany, there is no 200ps 1.6T i30 N Line (it's either 140ps 1.4T or 136ps 1.6 CRDi) and fully loaded 1.6 CRDi N Line cost €2,630 more than base i30N Performance. In the UK, there is no 200ps 1.6T i30 N line and fully loaded 1.4T N line (which do not have much of an option) is only £900 cheaper than base i30N. So, even if there are someone who opted for N Line instead of N, I don't think that is a cannibalization of more profitable products because selling a loaded N line might be more profitable than selling an actual N.

In the UK, the N-line is a 1.4L 140ps, with the same display as the i30N (which is an extra) it costs £23,505 whereas the 250N costs £25,760 so +9% on the N-line and the Performance cost is £29,495 so + 13% on the 250N and +23% on the N-Line

Wow that's insane, I know what I'd have though ;)

The sad thing about the i30 range is (in my opinion) that there's no in between the 1.4T i30 and the (250)N in Europe, as far as I know. We simply don't get the i30SR. There is however an extra style package which has different front/rear pumpers for the i30 which makes it look more agressive - which would've been a better touch for the N-Line IMO.

N-Line is for wanna be N drivers, can't wait to pull up beside one and use the extra 400cc. :)
I am a little disappointed that the N's interior is a little lacking, I really liked the red bits & bobs that the SR/N-Line has. I wonder if they will do a estate version?

The Fastback N does have Red stitching instead of the blue one and red accents on the vents. Also the N buttons on the steering wheel are black ;)

600cc and a minimum of 110bhp less in the UK, it's pretty watered down
