i30 N 2021 i30 N

I was in talking with my local dealer yesterday, making general enquiries regarding financing. It was mentioned to me that there had been numerous enquires regarding the new DCT version (especially the handful they have on order). I haven't placed an order/deposit yet and I wonder if I should, giving me the option to purchase the version I would like when it becomes available.

This could be a ploy by the dealer/salesman wishing to have the vehicles pre-sold to keep that balance sheets in the black...

In addition to this, I have never driven an i30, let alone an N. I'm thinking I should find a dealer with a used version and take it for a test drive... Like almost ever other contributor here I do not wish to have to wait longer than necessary, it's certainly not like the money is burning a hole in my pocket.

This is certainly not my first new car, it's most likely my last dinosaur compost version...

I know Australia is different, but here in Germany you make a loan with a bank specifically for a new car. Some of us ordered the car because the dealer was able to order it since they had all of the official pricing.

We signed a purchase contract but the loan is still not available since the bank doesn't have any car specifications in their system. We don't pay anything in advance.

I also never drove a car like this but this car checked all the boxes that I wanted in a car so it was a no-brainer. I just pulled the trigger 🤭

Yes, Australia is different, we have some many animals that can kill by just looking at you it's just frightening... But seriously, Australian's if they wish can borrow for an assortment of financial institutions (including the high interest rate banks offer).

Well, you only have a mid life crises once in a lifetime, so why not get the type of car you have always wanted... live the dream!

Maybe I misunderstood your original post about the ploy, just wanted to share the info about my own situation. Are you available to make an order in Australia at this point in time?

Also I think some kind of convertible is waiting for my mid life crisis since a lot of german people here like to drive those even tho the weather sucks. (btw I'm not german😅)

...most likely the same for those of us that intend on buying a brand new purely internal combustion-powered performance car in the next few years. Which is why you should maybe get one ASAP. And the N is one of the most raw (and very affordable) examples available really.

I'd suggest that, if you havent driven it, leverage the fact that you're looking to buy against the dealer - they ought to loan you the car for a few hours to drive and try it out, the new model and the current car arent going to be significantly different, so it may help you gauge if a DCT is a viable choice for you. Thats imo of course :)

Thanks for the advice - The dealer is small and doesn't have stock of these types of vehicle's to test drive being in the "country"(and don't I hate that).

Anyway, no more sitting on the fence for me as I placed my order for a hatch DCT Lux in Dark Night this evening! Expected delivery is June.

Only snag, based on unconfirmed reports, is the global shut down of Hyundai manufacturing plants due to supply chain issues.

I would like to extend my thanks to all contributors for their valued feedback.

P.S. No pricing available at this stage...

Congratulations - although the wait will be irritatingly hard, it'll be completely worth it!
Thanks mate, I did promise the sales guy I would try not to call him daily... but as I see the dealer principle (his boss) for work every week, I'm sure I can annoy the guy then....

I have waited almost 32 years for a car like this, 3 months will be.... easy.

Joining the club as well! Getting a lease on a DCT Luxury, but in Sunset Red! 😍 Can't wait to see it. The dealer is saying three months' wait (delivery in June as well), but I think it's just the default estimate and it might change one way or the other, especially since I'm based in Europe.

How is the waiting going - one day down

I have been waiting 3 months so far (ordered mine in December). Current ETA is May. I initially drove the N as a basically academic exercise. I had read about what Hyundai was doing with the i30N and was intrigued to see how well they had done, so I said to a friend of mine who was a Hyundai sales consultant, that if she gets one for a weekend to let me know, as I was interested in having a look at it. A few weeks later she got to bring the dealerships demo N home for the weekend and let me know that she had it. Loved the drive that I had and started reading a bit more about them. A few weeks later, she bought it home again, so I grabbed it for another more extended drive.

Just me returning the car to her (she only lives a few 100 metres away) took me about 15 minutes, as I HAD to take a detour via the neighbouring industrial estate (Sunday afternoon):D

The damage was done! That was about Oct. last year.

I kept bugging her over the following weeks, until she was able to advise that she could do a pre-order for me.

Mine will also be Lux Dark Knight , however mine will be a manual.

Based on recent Hyundai form, I get the impression that we won't know the pricing until just before they become available.

The wait continues.

Nice one! If I get the vehicle by September I will be a happy chappy, otherwise harsh words will be spoken!

I decide to throw all my energy into building a new fence/driveway so when my new pride and joy arrives she/he/it will not get dirty.... not as dirty as my neighbor will be when I reeve the engine every Sunday morning....

The discussion I had with the dealer was that pricing would be available when its on the boat... Not sure about Dark Knight, may change to White or Performance Blue.

For me it was Dark Knight or white. From a keeping clean perspective and stone chip visibility perspective, white wins hands down, but Dark Knight should look stunning when it is clean and well presented.

Time will tell as to whether I regret taking the bold choice, rather than the safe choice.

Dark Knight was the dealers choice, as that was the original car they had in the order system. Polar White would be better for our conditions here in Australia... As a lot of my driving is on country roads, at highway speeds I was intending on having PPF over the front bumper, bonnet and L & R front quarters along with a ceramic coat all over.

I'm car proud but not obsessive, I wont to fly under the radar and not have a car the shouts out "LOOK AT ME AND MY FAST CAR", it attracts the wrong type of on looker, like the police for instance.

To be honest, the i30N is completely invisible to cops regardless of colour - except maybe Phantom Black. I've gone through several RBT checkpoints and had chats to cops about this and other things - most generally dont even look at a Hyundai and think "oh, they have a performance version". Admittedly, this is entirely anecdotal evidence.

Still, the car is mostly under the skin fast, and is not an extroverted presence (ala the Civic Type-R, Megane RS or Focus RS), nor is it common enough that cops expect issues.

As far as general onlooker attention, again the only real interested people tend to be other N owners or people who know what the car is. Other than that, zero interest.

Its actually a key factor for buying this car, for me. I love the idea of sleepers, and this one is hiding (very badly, at that) in plain sight.

With the PPF btw, Hyundai apply some of their own product behind the front wheels and forward of the rear wheels (its dark, else I'd take a photo of mine to demonstrate). If you can, get a little PPF behind the rear wheels. I had PPF applied all over the front, mirrors and behind the arches where there wasn't any and then ceramic coat over the top (post/photos here) as I periodically drive from MEL to ADL and back, as well as I'll be tracking this car in due course.

I am the same. Like a nice looking car, but more of a sleeper! To my mind, that counts performance blue out. As soon as you see one, you know it is a N. Admittedly, you have to know about the N, to know it is a N!

I am also planning putting some PPF on mine, though probably only the first 300 mm of the bonnet and the bumper, or parts of it, before coating it. Looking at my current car, most of the chips are just before the bonnet, on the same plane as the bonnet and the lower dam area. Still thinking about the extent of the film.

The more time I spend here, the more freaking excited I get about my upcoming vehicle purchase. A sleeper it will be!

The only thing I was hoping it would have due to long stints behind the wheel was Smart Cruise with stop start, but I believe for some reason this is not available.
