Germany has 19% tax and fully equipped fastback DCT was 43 500 eur with 800 eur transfer cost included in the price (that's before the discount)
 
Atleast you all are able to buy one, we don't in NL. 😄

Have to find a way around that stupid BPM we have to pay so I can import one right away. 😅

Just saw Hyundai will release Ioniq 5 all electric car in the summer. 0-100 km/h in 5,2s and to me it looks better than I30N. Question is the price and how fun it will be to drive. Maybe they will release N model in the future with even better performance? That would be nice :)

Kia is also making their own version called the EV6 (to be unveiled next week). Apparently the GT spec is expected to do 0-100 km/h in 3.5 seconds. Pretty crazy.

It will be interesting to see if the next generation of N cars is electrified. Based on the direction of European regulation, it seems pretty likely.

My guess is that the next i30 N will be a PHEV, perhaps with petrol power for the front wheels and electric for the rear. Best of both worlds, since in theory you can still get the pops and bangs but with reduced fuel consumption and emissions.

Very interesting! I had no idea that those cars ware coming at all before today, and so soon. VW ID3 looks like sk*t compared to Ionic 5 and probably also EV6 judging from pictures they have released so far.

Found the price of Ionic 5. It will start at 41.900€ in Germany. Don´t know how taxes work there but here in Sweden you get price reduction for electric cars. For Polestar 2 it is around 6000€ from 60000€ price so assuming it´s the same % it would mean 10% reduction in price (tax back after six months) to 38000€ for the base model. That´s not so far from I30N. But then it´s just the base model with 2 wheel drive and cheaper battery that does 8.5s in 0-100km/h. They will have two battery options and 2 and 4 wheel drive options. It´s the most expensive one that will do 5.2s so probably no N models for now. But i really would love tho see Ionic 5 N. More aggresive and even more sporty :)

That'd be the worst possible scenario, but it's very likely (unfortunately).
Worst of both worlds: small petrol engine (1 - 1,4l), adding 250 - 300 kg for the phev stuff and small battery.
You'd be fast for like 2 - 3 short sprints (on a straight line) and then your battery is empty and you have a small engine, a shitload of additional dead weight and a driver that still wants to go fast - but the car can't deliver anymore. You'll lose all advantages a hothatch was build for. You're not agile anymore, you are not lightweight (I know that i30N is already quite heavy) anymore and there's no way to use it on the track anymore.
I know that almost all other brands go into that direction due to environmental regulations, but that means sudden death for all fun cars. Just imagine a 2 tonnes + AMG C63 with 2l engine + phev and 500+ HP (but only for 10 minutes). Or a Skoda Octavia RS with 250 HP for those 10 min and then you'll have a 150 HP (remember: 2 tonnes) snail for the rest of the time.
And if that isn't enough, think about an i30N with 1,9 t and 1,4l engine and not even 200 HP, because you ran out of battery after 1 - 2 rounds on the track. Sounds fun, doesn't it?

Additionally the complexity increase greatly meaning more to go wrong: Complex transmission and dual power train may potentially lead to very expensive to repairs. It might even mean that some cars will be scraped relatively early as the cost of repair come to exceed the value of the vehicle (or or close to) after a couple of years of heavy depreciation. If so that means the hybrid cars will not even be better for the environment.

Fair concerns, but hopefully Hyundai's battery technology (with some of the best efficiency in the industry) will enable something almost or equally as dynamic as their pure petrol N cars.

There are many fantastic PHEV sports cars out there. The Porsche 918 Spyder, even with its relatively outdated battery technology, has excellent dynamics and incredible speed. In a normal hybrid mode, the battery seems to have decent endurance (yes, I've heard that it can be flattened in a few hard laps in Race mode, though).

While that Porsche and other PHEV sports cars are obviously in an entirely different class, I trust that Hyundai can deliver something solid in the future. They haven't let us down just yet!

The alternative is to go straight to pure electric, but then you lose the gearbox and exhaust note too. You do avoid a lot of complexity, though.

It's possible, but there are other phev's that seem to do just fine in the performance department.
I've read a few tests on the new Peugeot 508 PSE. That's a hybrid to but it is focused on performance instead of economy.
In the tests I read it was even capable of trackday use and still have some juice in the battery left.
Downside is that it isn't that economical, but on the all important WLTP test it performs well, and that's all that counts.
The new 308 will have a smaller form of the same package (around 350 hp and 500Nm) and will be a bit cheaper than the 508 (wich in Belgium that is, costs a whoping 66000 euro...).
I strongly believe that that is the way Hyundai N will go to.

Guys, don't overrate EVs that much. Yes, they have great acceleration to 100km/h but mostly because of no time lost on transmission and starting from a stop. They all start loosing power around 80 km/h and even more above 120km/h. We could do better if we would have 4x4 but launching a car is just on part of a fun driving experience.

Mild hybrid is something that is purely for efficiency. In sport cars I will never leave start-stop system on unless the cars is fitted with electric oil pump.

Regular hybrid is barely better than MH as it has just more power to help ICE at speeds up to 50km/h so for typical city driving.

PHEV are the worst for sports cars as they are always heavy. Unless it would be a system with small battery and very potent electric motor then its pointless. Sports car must be nimble and all PHEV are not that. They may be fast in a straight and on autobahn put not in situations were hot hatches shine the most.

Just one last OT from my side, @Hayden120:
The 918 Spyder is a very bad example, because it is very powerful even without the battery (4,6l engine) and it doesn't rely on the electric engines to be fast (and it costs easily a freaking 1 Million € 😉), while "modern" phev have to rely on the power that is delivered by battery and e-engines because they are responsible for almost 50% of the car's power.

508 PSE: 1,6l engine, 11 kW/h battery, 140 PS when battery is empty, weighs 2 tonnes = 70k €. That's far from being impressive, IMHO.

Don't get me wrong here but that phev stuff doesn't work in the performance segment at all.
You go either full electric or full old school. Phev and performance cars is just mixing the worst things of both worlds together.

I have an i30n for the fun part and a Kona electric for daily driving and you'd still be below 70k € and can spent the rest for nice family holidays.
 
Some EV's are great in straight line acceleration, try and throw them around some twisty roads and see how much fun they are then... that is before I go flying past in my new dinosaur compost powered i30N that is!

Note: New i30N may/may not be currently in my possession, no road rules were broken and no dinosaur's were harmed ...

This is healthy banter, folks ^^^ but let's please try and stay on topic (on this thread at least) - the 2021 i30N is probably the hottest topic on the forum right now but we've stopped talking about it.

We're getting a bit desperate during this 2021 i30 N news drought LOL.

My local dealers are all saying at least June or later for delivery now.

Fair enough man, sorry you have such a waiting game to play. I ordered mine in early October 2018 and I was cruising around in it before the end of that month. That said, I ordered a PB Poverty Pack tin-top, no option boxes ticked, no haggle and there just happened to be one sitting in Adelaide unaccounted for. Second N ordered in Darwin, first one delivered. First one ordered (weeks before mine) was an ER Lux Pack and that arrived weeks after mine.

Hope the wait goes quickly for you.
