i30 N 2021 i30 N

Can anyone confirm if the car has metal paddle shifters in Europe? This article from PistonHeads claims they are, but they were definitely plastic (not cold to the touch and flexed a bit) when I sat in the car here in Australia.

Metal over here in the UK (Well the one on my test drive)

From the piston heads review

"The metal gearshift paddles are prominent and well positioned"

Weird mine look like metal but sound and feel like plastic. I will do an electrical conductivity test. They pass the test so guess they must be metal (or metallic paint). Either way they look and feel ok to use so not sure why this matters?

Weird. They definitely seem like plastic here in Australia. Just painted silver. They flex when you pull on the ends. Not a big deal, but just confused by the article saying they're metal.
Yes they flex a bit but think that might be down to the connection rather than the paddle itself flexing

i will not order them with the light seats, but from what i see on this forum most of the people do

I'm not in the market for the FL, but I would probably have the "normal" seats due to their electronic adjustments.

Yes, I know the N-Light seats save 4kg, but then they go and put a DCT gearbox in which weighs an additional 35kg, so a bit pointless if you're doing it just for weight saving ;)

I think the rear seats are lighter too but even with the extra 35kg the DCT is supposed to be faster than the manual.
I wonder how much the electric seats weigh?

I found them quite good! Arguably better then the paddles that VW uses with their DSG boxes.

Arguably unfair competition there. I'd be more interested in a comparison against the Focus ST and Golf GTI, which are probably more comparable. I'd prefer a video review of the i30 N DCT just on its own merits. Where are these videos?!
Why isn’t the Type R fair competition? both those are around the same price point now, both FWD, plus the Honda is a manual and the DCT i30N still couldn’t beat it, the Type R is just an incredible car..

Not sure what the situation is in Europe, but in Australia the "official" launch of the i30 N was delayed until July 30 with an embargo on reviews until August 1. So that may be why there aren't many reviews out there. I think Autocar had one up yesterday

For the Australian market, the only relevant review would be between the 2021 Golf GTI, Focus ST and the i30N. As each of the listed vehicles are around the same price, give or take $10K.

The Honda Tyre R and Audi S3 are not currently available in our market.

The Type R tested here did not have the rear wing so much improved appearance/far more subtle IMO! Would have been interesting had it been offered down under.

Before the Melbourne lockdown I was planning to check out a 2nd hand Civic Type R with the massive spoiler ;) The continual delays from Hyundai gave me the push to check out the competitors more (Focus ST, GTI etc)

Can't help wondering if these reviews of the DCT are giving a true picture of its performance. What mode and settings are they using. Have they used the NGS button and would it be quicker to use full auto? I'd certainly like to see a more detailed review.
