Can we please get some news in the next week or two, Hyundai? It feels like it's basically been radio silence from the company since they announced the car in September last year.

Some first drive reviews from the press (e.g. Autogefühl) would be nice. Maybe just some more pictures, or adding a configurator to the website, or some local pricing (Australia).

Losing my patience and getting bored here. 😝

Spoke to my local Hyundai dealer on Friday, they have several vehicles pre-ordered. Based on the dealer order system, the expected date for the ship to dock in Melbourne is the end of May.... delivery to dealer a week or so after. So, June all things going well.

The longer it takes, the more impatient I become! I have even considered buying a Golf, a GOLF...

The info you have received is consistent with the info I have recently received from my dealer, regarding my pre-ordered N. The advice that I have received is that it is due into Fremantle in the second week of May. I assume that the boat then heads around the bottom and towards Melbourne etc. Not sure how many ports it stops at, or how long it takes to get from Freo to Melb.

Hopefully, there are no more delays.

Yeah, well about that.... He just bought a Mk 7.5 Golf R final addition. So, i feel I let the team down, I dont feel good about it. But I'm allowed to drive it....

Inset "hearty laghter here".... I tried, so hard... I feel like I should have done more, sleepness nights and all that thinking about how much more enjoyment I'm going to have when this BLOODY CAR ARRIVES! I hope no else has to go through a similar situation.

I actually understand where you're coming from. I only had to wait 6 weeks and that felt like an eternity.

But, it is totally worth it. Once you get past the break-in period and start to go hard with it, you'll completely forget about the wait.

As a bit of incentive, you should go do this little trip - this assumes you're in Melbourne btw - on a good weekend: Warburton, Victoria 3799 to Marysville VIC 3779 - Google Maps

I did that on Sunday, from Marysville to Reefton was...epic. Unfortunately, the audio recording didnt work, so I'm lining up some new kit for that and will "sadly" have to go drive it again.

How did you handle 6 weeks... No longer in Melbourne, Eastern Victoria now. My friend mentioned the Marysville drive, it will certainly be on my driving bucket list. I don't know envy you at all having to drive that route again. Looking at a NSW/QLD coast road drive later in the year.

- Nov 24, 2020 (my first post)
- Nov 25, 2020 (1st contact with the sales guy)
- Nov 26, 2020 (2nd contact with the sales guy)
- Dec 7, 2020 (about my 4th contact with the sales guy)
- Dec 14, 2020 (I gave up counting at this point)
- There's a lot more posts

I could probably reproduce the dates for all my posts, but suffice to say the rep I dealt with must think I'm a complete nutter. As the lack of news kept compounding, I got more and more annoyed - I ended up cracking it on the 23rd of Dec because I couldnt find anything out about the car. Then suddenly the car turns up on the 24th and then I had to wait until the 29th of Dec to get delivery of it.

In my defense, this is my first ever new car and I struggled to hand over that much cash (this was pretty much most of my savings at this point) without anything to show for it.

As for the drive, if you have any passengers who dont like narrow-ish roads and speed, dont take them along.

So the news isn't so great for delivery dates for the i30N - it lines up with what is being advised by dealers.

I assume that most people are across this, but if anybody is looking for reviews of the new DCT and its associated modes, and also the new seats, the 2021 Veloster N has these fitted and there are now numerous reviews available - e.g. https://www.hotcars.com/2021-hyundai-veloster-n-dct-review-south-koreas-hot-hatch-gets-hotter/.

From my quick attempt to convert the US measurements (power and torque) back to something that I is in line with the i30N measurements, it seems that whilst the new Veloster N gets the new seats and DCT, it does not get the slightly upgraded power and torque rating that we will be getting. eg 260pound foot = 352 Nm, not the 392 that is being quoted for the new i30N.

Whilst the DCT comments are academic for me, as I am getting the manual, all the comments that I have seen on the DCT are very positive.

The Veloster N in general has been detuned for the lower octane ratings and fuel quality that's available in most places in the US, which is why the i30N has a higher torque rating. They may have still upgraded the turbo tho.

Hell, that's worse than the crowed waiting outside Chadstone for the boxing day sale to start! You do have something to show for it, something that everyone should be jealous of, including me!

I'm sure there are several people how will get the "pleasure" of being a passenger on tight, twisty roads and hate every moment... it's hard, but somebody has to be that guy...

This bodes well for production numbers, at least in the short term: Global semiconductor shortage continues to stifle auto production (whichcar.com.au)

Sources assert, according to Reuters, that the Hyundai Motor Group (including Kia) kept up its purchasing of semiconductor chips last year, while other manufacturers such as Volkswagen, General Motors and Ford all slowed down.

Hyundai even accelerated its purchasing towards the end of 2020, seeing the writing on the wall that chips would become scarce in 2021. This allowed the South Korean motoring giant to build a stockpile of the chips to use in its vehicle production.

So that's at least one aspect of the production chain not materially affected in the short term.

Now I do, but at the time I was thinking "where's my bloody car?! I want my car, I hate giving my money away" over and over.

Honest to god though, I'm not a nutter :) I'm just your everyday guy who was a touch anxious awaiting the delivery of his car.
 
I was in talking with my local dealer yesterday, making general enquiries regarding financing. It was mentioned to me that there had been numerous enquires regarding the new DCT version (especially the handful they have on order). I haven't placed an order/deposit yet and I wonder if I should, giving me the option to purchase the version I would like when it becomes available.

This could be a ploy by the dealer/salesman wishing to have the vehicles pre-sold to keep that balance sheets in the black...

In addition to this, I have never driven an i30, let alone an N. I'm thinking I should find a dealer with a used version and take it for a test drive... Like almost ever other contributor here I do not wish to have to wait longer than necessary, it's certainly not like the money is burning a hole in my pocket.

This is certainly not my first new car, it's most likely my last dinosaur compost version...
