Winter Wheels & Tyres

We don´t have proper winter in our area. Last year we had some snow but usually there will be snow less than 10-days in winter. In Poland they used to add tons of salt to the roads even if there is no ice. Most of the winter we have salt-water on the roads and I can´t see any problems by using wide tyres. There is also the option to buy 7,5" wide wheels and install 215/45 R18 winter tyres. 215 tyre will be 3,6mm bigger than 235/35 R19 but it will fit.

For winter 7,5J is the recommended option anyway.. 215 on 7,5J is on the narrow side for the width of the wheel, not sure that would do the wheels any good.. and I don't even know why you would want the overall diameter to be bigger.. Personally I would never put steel wheels on the N.. but that's just me.

He wants to have more rubber on wheels and 215/45 R18 is only 3,6mm bigger than 235/35 R19. If he goes for 225/40 R18 set up, tyre will be 9,9mm smaller than 235/35 R19.

I asked in hyundai about it - thay will not give permision to change tires to sizes different than in manual.....
They told me that if I use other size even if it will fit - safety conditions of car will be different.
They don't want to be responsible for this and I can have a problems with my insurance too.
For this moment - I need to stay with my idea of changing 19" tires to 18" 225/40.
I'm thinking now about Brock RC B32 mat black alloy (picture is on the first side ot the topic) because it has 18" 7,5x18 5x114,3 ET49,5 67,1 and it fit i30n on all wheel shops sites. About tires - Continental TS850P (92V XL FR) for the winter and Continental Sport Contact 6 (92Y XL FR) for the summer. If I sell original 19" I will buy second set of alloys to have 2 full sets of wheels.

You didn't need to ask, that was a given.

Today I talked with service guy from hyundai about tires and alloys. He told me one important to me thing - if I am afraid of big curbs I should take better alloys not bigger tires. He recommended me to search for racing or forged rims. Can you guys recommend me something ?
I am looking for 7.5x18 but in reasonable price.

Doesn't matter how good your alloys are, if you touch a kerb with them, your still going to get damage. The more rubber surrounding them, the better protection, and get some rim blades for added insurance.

Test fit of my winter wheels. 18" MSW 27's. Gloss black. Fit fine. Plenty clearance and flush with the arches.
Tyres are Uniroyal Rainsport 3's. Great wet grip but wear a bit quick..

Need to clean them and treat the tyres too

I like that I can use my "H" centre caps. The MSWs are not as subtle as the Hyundai's.

Since we're talking about winter wheels, the whole time I had my thoughts focused on the Sparco assetto gara 18" wheels & then my son introduced me to a local distributor of Tec Speedwheels. I think I've found what I'm looking for - Tec Speedwheel GT6 Ultralight in Black. The picture below is the previous version, but the winter version (going through TUEV certification at the moment - expected completion in earlier Oct) will be solid black or silver. I'm looking at the 8x18 with 225/40 Nokian WR D4. I’m probably not that far off. Just deciding on specs, i already have a second set of the hn tyres but i might drop to semi forged 18 Vorsteiner wheels...

My son just purchased gun metal grey AS2 - 8.5x19 ET 40 with 215/35 summer tires for his Veloster - figured I would try them on for ideas. Not bad

do you think they could be a good fit? I have no clue on what I should look to be sure they will fit to my performance model and what tyres I should look for if this rims are 'ok'

According to The Bible the PCD is 114,3 mm and so those wheels won't fit.

I like them! But at 8.5j are you sure it’s 215 width tyres?

Yep - 215s. The rims are wider than the tires. Didn't catch the brand though.

Tec has these in 8x18 for winter, but I'm still leaning towards the GT6 Ultralights - don't really care for the way the rims stick out beyond the tire.
