In that case I'd definitely change the oil, if you put the lever in neutral, then let the clutch engage a couple of times then try 1st gear does it then engage ok?

yes, that's what i meant by playing with the clutch and it works completely normal for the next 100 times.

Just had a 6 year service and the garage are convinced that this amount of metal flakes on the magnetic transmission oil plug is the sign of a major issue. I'm not convinced though. The car is a 2020 i30n performance on 33000 miles. Isn't this just a normal build up to be found on the first transmission oil change after this time/mileage?

The picture isn't all that clear. I'd certainly expect some metal filings from the diff. I always change my transmission oil a lot sooner than 30,000 miles.

Thanks for the reply, this photo might be a bit clearer.Screenshot_20261015_174344_Gallery.jpg
The thought of them stripping down my transmission gives me the fear, could this even cause issues that didn't exist before?

That's a bit more than I would like but in effect it's the first oil change from new in 30000 miles so not excessive. Is the box making any strange noises? Whining?

No there's no symptoms at all, gears smooth, no unusual noises. I feel that a total strip down of the transmission is an unnecessary risk but I'm no mechanic, what would you do?
