In that case I'd definitely change the oil, if you put the lever in neutral, then let the clutch engage a couple of times then try 1st gear does it then engage ok?
yes, that's what i meant by playing with the clutch and it works completely normal for the next 100 times. In that case I'd definitely change the oil, if you put the lever in neutral, then let the clutch engage a couple of times then try 1st gear does it then engage ok?

Thanks for the reply, this photo might be a bit clearer. The picture isn't all that clear. I'd certainly expect some metal filings from the diff. I always change my transmission oil a lot sooner than 30,000 miles.

No there's no symptoms at all, gears smooth, no unusual noises. I feel that a total strip down of the transmission is an unnecessary risk but I'm no mechanic, what would you do?That's a bit more than I would like but in effect it's the first oil change from new in 30000 miles so not excessive. Is the box making any strange noises? Whining?
I'd run it for 5K miles and pull the plug again. See what's there, I'll bet it's goodNo there's no symptoms at all, gears smooth, no unusual noises. I feel that a total strip down of the transmission is an unnecessary risk but I'm no mechanic, what would you do?
Yeah, sounds like the best thing to do before committing to a strip down. ThanksI'd run it for 5K miles and pull the plug again. See what's there, I'll bet it's good
