Hello guys, I have precisely a question about the pops and bangs. My car (picked up last saturday) hast 13,000 Km on it and it sounds good, deep and nice on engine Sport+ and exhaust on Sport+, too. However, no pops and bangs. I have driven aggressively over quite curvy roads, accelerating, rev matching and braking,... and no pop and bangs.
Does anybody else have this issue? If that is the case, how can I change it?

Oohhh another one from Zürich I found the exhaust even pops a little when you just let off the gas quickly, without doing anything else (no clutch etc). Even below 3k RPM.

What climate are you in? I don’t think the exhaust likes very cold weather.....

I have been driving in pretty nice spring weather here in Switzerland. Around 18, 19 celsius according to the board computer. I was driving lowed windows and t-shirt. Don't think the weather was a factor in the absence of pops and bangs.

True that I didnt drive in high rev regimes, but also didnt drive smoothly and gentle. Was aggressive on the turns and throttle push when coming out of turns. The exhaust sounded deep and well rounded. Just not pops and bangs.

Yes, and also grey color
When I read your comment leaves me no doubts something's wrong or missing with my exhaust valves not producing pops and bangs.

Okay guys, just having a look at Hyundai's website, on the i30N description site I saw how the screens on the gauge cluster look or should look when running the different modes.
I have attached a pic where you can see where I have a sign saying "REV" only when I activate the N and N-Custom modes. I thought it was like that because they are the only two modes with the Rev Matching function activated, but now in this photo I see it doesn't show up.

Only way to find out is to meet up. Maybe @Matthias will join us, too. I'm in 8181, you?

I am in 8003, and will gladly meet. Only have driven it through the Buchenegg and Albispass once and I smoked already a Golf R. Would be nice to share our views and have a look, guys.

Put it in neutral and rev it to the red line (once warmed up). It should pop when you lift off the throttle.

It should pop at anything over 4K RPM

I guess you can disable revmatching and enable esp in N-mode, which would give you this screen. However, you can also enable revmatching in normal and sportmode.

I picked up my car on thursday and I'm very surprised by how loud it is. I remembered the test drive in the N back in october, but I'm pretty sure my car is louder, a lot...
Even when it is in normal and eco-mode I can clearly hear it burble. Can't say I mind though

Perhaps your one owner that can say for sure that your in-car sound enhancer is actually working. I think most of us don't really know wether it is or not!

I really have no clue if it's working or not. In Normal mode once warm, it's very quiet if you don't accelerate.

I must admit my car sounds deep and solid and round and relatively loud when in N-mode. However, pops and bangs are really a rara-avis. I will keep observing and trying different combinations, but mainly compare it with other N cars and so when I visit the garage I can give a good report. If I compare with the test drive I don't remember much of a difference.

Should pop and ban quite happily over 4k when it’s warm, make sure you’re giving it some and it might make some more noise

Yes, this is what people have already said, but my car tends to be noisier when cold than it is when warm after a good 30-min ride. I have no clue why.

Cold it's noisier, but warm it should bang. The valve seems to be open on cold engine, even in normal mode.

Is it normal for the car to be louder if you do not completely push the accelerator pedal? When I accelerate fully, it sounds like the exhaust valve is in normal mode. You only hear the turbo here. If I go slightly off the pedal, it gets much louder. Does anyone have this problem?

Not a problem. The car has a big turbo after all (2.0 and 275 HP). This is why purists hate the turbo as you loose some sound at full throtle because of it.

Indeed. If you sit at a steady rpm in 2nd Gear for example, the exhaust is very loud.

I don’t see that as a problem and regularly just do it for effect.

Perhaps that’s why my mpg is so bad

Okay, so I have to live with a loud car which is quiet by overtaking. Or just overtake with half the throttle thanks, not what I hoped to hear but better than a defective sound generator AND exhaust valve..
