Exhaust- / Sound Discussion

The weather in Slovakia is supposed to break on Sunday and we should have +8 celsius temps next week. I'll give it a go once it gets warmer and keep you posted.
I guess we have the same weather here in Austria. I drove quite "enthusiastically" this evening in minus 10, lots of burbles (which come from the engine) but no pops (which come from the exhaust). Still lots of fun :D.

Next week will be back to normal.

I think it is somehow related to temperature because yesterday it was -13 celsius and pops came easier after one hour of driving when car was properly heated. Today it was -26 celsius and oil temperature raised only to 70 degrees after on hour of driving so I didn't want to even try pops.. I can just imagine how it is going to sound in summer :D

It’s been between -6c and -2c here today and no sign of any pops. Haven’t had that issue before so it has to be down to the cold.
First time in 2,500 miles they haven’t worked

So the weather finally moved north of 0C. Had from +1 to +4 degrees today and I am happy to report that pops and bangs are back!!
I'm almost certain cold weather makes them disappear, now the question is why? On my car the pops go away as soon as the temp drops below 0, so maybe some ECU management that prevents crackles on overrun from happening for some reason?

It'll be a protection thing I think.

Exactly the same with mine - no pops at all last week when it was zero or below every day. Today it’s 8C and it popped as normal so hopefully it’ll just get milder from now on to enjoy them!!

Absolutely. Cars, particularly turbo charged one’s don’t like the cold.;)

On that note, the ecu will limit boost until operating temperature is reached id imagine also.

Clever little things aren’t they.

I just drove the car at -22 degrees. First almost one hour drive in normal mode and then changed to custom mode. I made few hard accelerations and no bangs. Then suddenly it started to pop like never before  I think there should be exhaust temperature also in the dash so that I know when the car is ready to bang :D

When the car first launched - some owners were saying the pops and bangs only happen for the initial part of a drive. Can anyone confirm whether this is the case or not?

They’ve never stopped when I’ve been driving - covered 3,500 miles now and the longest drive time was 5 hours - still popping!

Only time it's stopped working for me is at very low temperatures (-10c), otherwise it's quite consistent.

I've found it quite random - this week I've had two mornings with pops almost from the off, one day coming home with pops all the way, one with no pops and at, and one with pops for the first few minutes and then suddenly nothing.

I actually think there should be something on one of the N pages on the main screen which says whether the system is enabled and if not, what conditions have caused it to be disabled.

Actually the pops are fun but the exhaust rumble and ‘gurgle’ when you lift off, especially at low speeds is actually even better - it sounds more meaty and powerful. The car is so refined it sounds much better with the front windows open a fraction - now it’s not too cold to do that!!

Rubbish windows down heating on max that way you can enjoy the noise

LMAO, -26 degrees celsius, and my car doesn't pop..... I haven't got my car yet, but the temp here is +26 degrees celsius ATM, and when I do get it, I will have the exhaust turned right down to the quietest setting 99% of the time. Australian rozzers will "defect" your car and fine you on the spot if it is too loud. And our roads are too rough to have the suspension turned all the way to sport+. The N mode will be reserved for track days, just as it should be....

i use shell V power and although my car is still under 1000miles i can only seem to get it too pop and bang if getting near red line in 1st gear and sometimes it does it in second but anything above that it dont do it? Would this be because its not revving high enough while driving normally? if in second i can push it a bit and let off the throttle and it will do it too. Eddie who i met on sunday with his red one was so much louder and popped even when reving it up but had covered over 2500miles i think he said so would this make a difference too?

Mine does it at anything over 4K rpm... doesn’t matter what fuel it’s running!
