It doesn't pop at temperatures below 4°C (give or take a few degrees). It is programmed to protect the engine, for what I don't know. Also when the exhaust temp is to high it will stop popping.
Nothing to do with the higher octane, just a coincidence.
There is an extra injector in the exhaust that causes the pops (sort of an afterburn), so the higher resistance against knocking isn't the cause.
Yep (is there another mode?)You did!! I assume that's N mode then?

Sounds like the building was custom designed for the car. I bet if you rev the car right in the middle you'll get great reverb! My neighbors will hate me, I live in a horse shoe shaped building and the flats all face onto the car park.. where the N will park...![]()
I went for a drive in the sunshine today and opened the windows an inch to hear the exhaust better - the pops really are like a gun shot. I overtook a line of bikes and when I changed up the bangs made them jump. They all waved their fists at me and a bloke with his kid turned and waved at me grinning as I pulled away from a junction popping onto second gear.
It’s so addictive!!
I literally just drove about for 2 hours in the sunshine - just because! This post has just put a massive grin on my face.
This is what it’s all about.![]()

Same here, -12degC and not much coming from the exhaust, even on longer journeys. I'm sure it will be back when it warms up again.Hi everyone. After having mine for almost three weeks and 3500km, yesterday I noticed pops and bangs went away during one of my drives. Today after a longer journey in the early afternoon they were back, and gone again after leaving the car parked outside for a couple of hours. We are having unusually cold couple of days (-10 centigrade in the morning and around -3 mid-day) so my theory is that is has to have something to do with ambient temperature. Maybe with the fact that exhaust cannot get hot enough... ?
It's driving me nuts, so if I hope someone from Hyundai could shed some light onto this. There just has to be a logic in the process, I don't buy to the fact that it comes and goes as it pleases![]()
