Exhaust- / Sound Discussion

Yeah I drove around a couple of dealerships to look at colours, as soon as I saw CS I was sold. Took it for a test drive anyway lol.

I know. But in the dealers here in the north, they only had to demonstrate in black and white. I ended up choosing Performance Blue because I saw the car of WRC pilot Armindo Araujo. And also because it was the only car expected to arrive early, because the dealer had already ordered for them some time ago.

As I work for Hyundai I thought I would share with you all how the exhaust pops work.

The active variable exhaust valve lets you select different levels of exhaust sound, ranging from relatively restrained in normal mode to the crackling after-burn growls in N mode.
The crackling sounds like a rally car in fast upshifts occurs as the I30 N deliberately alters its engine parameters to ignite fuel later than normal combustion, thereby discharging the explosion of fuel into the exhaust manifold.
The valve is mounted on the right-hand exhaust tip and is controlled in three steps depending on the engine revs and torque:
0 per cent open, 50 per cent open and 100 per cent open.

in the reverse the car has the loudest exhaust sound. i think, then its 100% open. anybody know, if the exhaust valve have a fuse. in my other car, which have also 2 exhaust valves, is it possible, to deactivate the valve function, just with take ou the fuse. then the valve will stays all the time open.
my other car, has also the mild2wild exhaust controller, which makes me possible, to controll whenever i will open or close it 100%.
i would like to have this also on the N

Update: There is definetly no (visible) Error. Have to check when i read out the faults, but the car works with disconnected valve. Started the car, reverse gear (That valve is 100% open) and stopped the car. After disconnecting the valve, started again, what should i say. nice sound in eco too :D Ill try it out on the way home, so i can hear the differences which makes the variable valve control in different accelerations (Full, half, idle).

Update 2: pops in Eco :D the car sounds nice. A bit louder than in N mode in some cases. But it feels like the engine needs the valve a bit. It's a different feeling when you release the throttle. Anyway a nice experience, but not as cool as to mute your car with the left buttons. But now I'm sure, my sound generator isn't working, except it's active on Eco. There is no sound difference between the modes inside the car.

Insider,

I have a question...... Is it possible to use the sport+ exhaust setting, and NOT have the cracks / bangs? I absolutely love the exhaust, especially in the sport+ setting, the volume does not worry me at all, and the rumble on downshifts and throttle lift off at low speeds is great.

But I find it really annoying when you change up at 4500 rpm from just moderate acceleration, and the bang given off by the exhaust wakes the dead, and frightens the life out of the people in the car next to me, especially when you are trying to be a little discreet. I want the loudness, and the throatiness, and the ability to turn off the bangs when in the city. The sport setting is too tame IMO, and the cracks / bangs are sometimes just too much. It must be possible, my other car has a louder (almost straight through) exhaust but no bangs. Ideally, I would want a switch to turn it on or off.

The valve is mounted at the very tail end of the exhaust, so surely it does not alter the engine parameters, so is there a custom combination where you can use the loudest exhaust setting, and not get the bangs?

(Totally showing my age, and I don't have enough points on my license to get pulled over again...)

Seems this is very different from car to car...

Mine is just banging in N mode and if i push it way over 5000rpm, and also than it is not as often and as loud i remembered it from my test drive
No Chance for any bangs before i see the shiftlights..

@deFlanker , you had the same issue, right!? Any News?
