Brakes Brake Upgrade Discussion (Discs / Pads / ... )

Does anyone know the PBS Prorace/Protrack brake pads? Based on other forums related to other cars seems to receive quite good feedbacks. And they seems also to be quite cheap.. Hmm..

Yes, friend of mine has PBS protrack on fn2 typerR and said better than ds2500.
Flat characteristic and modulation, good when cold, almost no noise in his application (ds2500 does a lot), no fade during trackdays (ds2500 does), not oversensitive to bedding in and seems to last quite long + disc looks also not significantly worn.
Only disadvantage is no R90 cert. for EU and duty if shipperd from UK. But in general seems very good also for daily.
Unfortunately protrack is not available for i30n.
 
I see those are 360mm so will only work with the facelift.

Is it possible to swap facelift calipers on the pre-facelift?
I am gonna buy the facelift calipers to install on the 2019 model. So now im looking for some 360mm rotors. I think that's gonna improve some the brake power going from 345 to 360mm.

Any opinion in that?

How exactly will it achieve that? Piston
-Area in the FL caliper is identical to the one in the PFL (IIRC), so you are not having more friction area to slow your car down with. The bigger rotors only allow for slightly improved heat management, but that should be it.

bigger brakes have more leverage and would theoretically require less piston pressure to achieve the same stopping power compared to smaller rotors + like you said more heat capacity. So they do have advantages.

It has been said several times by people who owned both generations (me included) that 345mm version has better-stopping power than the FL one with 360. The 360mm feels almost wooden and has a worse initial bite and brake feel. If you want to upgrade get yourself different bake discs and better pads like Endless MX87. If that is not enough then go for a real big brake conversion.

There might be a theoretical advantage, but IMHO that's absolutely negligible and this "upgrade" is a huge waste of money.
As mentioned: utilize better pads and if that's not enough go for a proper BBK.

Well, all this you tell me is bad news, as they say above having a larger diameter they have greater stopping force and I understand that the caliper or piston is the same in both models so I do not know why you have to notice a worse feeling in the 360mm.

I have mounted metal brake lines and good pads, so I wanted to improve something else without having a problem with TUV inspection.
 
In theory larger brakes and pads should have advantage yes, but in practice Hyundai changed something for the worse on 360 versions because they are not as good as 345 versions. My guess is they changed materials or supplier of discs and pads. So if you are looking for upgrade save money and get some TUV approved aftermarket pads and discs. The first time I drove hard my Kona N through same curves I almost crashed, because I was expecting same stopping power as on my VFL i30N. I even went to service department how disappointed I was. But after a test drive there of FL i30N i realized those 360 are just worse overall.

There are several BBK with TÜV papers available (AP, Tarox, Lowfact, Vmaxx...).
 
Does a front-only BBK upset the brake balance front to rear? Just thinking out loud, no plans to fit one (yet!)
No, not at all. You can switch to more aggressive pads in the back as well but you don’t have to.
