Big Mistake!

Repainting will cause an additional reduction in value. It’s easy to detect with a paint thickness gauge.

PPF for the front end, is far cheaper than painting. Quality of application is dependent on the installer. Find a good one and it will last the life of the car.🙂👍🇺🇸

Yeah dealers regularly pull out a paint depth gauge at trade in

For a dealer trade in, one dead giveaway is no chips on a clean front end from a car that’s two or more years old.

It’s an indicator it’s been repainted or had body work done. Hence, out comes the paint depth gauge.

Had it done many times after pulling off PPF. If it’s got PPF, it will generally raise the price of a trade in.👍🇺🇸

This will never ever ever happen in the UK

They won't be able to measure the paint thickness of a front bumper as it's made of plastic and not out of metal.
And due to the different materials of the parts, the color of a bumper will never match 100% to the parts next to it.
Although the color matching might be wors than with the original paint.
Usually it shouldn't reduce the value just by repainting the bumper, as long as it's done well.

Oh cool, maybe I'll just start with the correction and ceramic coating for now and get ppf later on if needed.
I'm getting my entire front end and roof PPF'd (Yorkshire Roads, say no more) and been given a decent price.

Includes an all round ceramic coating, including calipers and the associated bits. Was due to be done next week but had to re arranged due to the delays. PPF will protect against stone chips and bird lime. Just my 2 cents but the protection it offers can't be beaten. Plus, a good majority of installers offer lifetime warranty with it.

In the UK buyers are not routinely armed with a paint thickness gauge ;) Given the state of most people's wheels (mine included) the front bumper is the least of their worries.

No UK dealer ever gave an uplift on trade-in price based on extras fitted.

I’m not talking about resale but trade-in value. If a resale buyer has any sense, they’ll see the same regarding no chips and not a precise color match. Body work is fairly easy to detect even for a outright sale.

Do as you wish but PPF will account for a higher resale value to the customer overall. Even the dealership will take note of it as a plus. It may be a small amount but nevertheless, it will raise the overall resale value.

I’ve lived in the UK for an extended period of time and I’m fully familiar with what UK dealership will and won’t do from first hand experience. So, I’ll simply dismiss the rest.👍🇺🇸

Ah guess again, there are paint thick gauges available for plastic bumpers and body parts;
. They‘re eddy current and ultrasonic gauges.
This is just one of many available. Where theres a need, there’s tool available. I’ve seen them in us.👍🇺🇸

As riveting as this conversation is, I'm afraid I'm going to derail it and ask about something else..

Anyone had an issue where N Custom mode intermittently resets? Mines done it twice now and I've only done 250 miles

Did you select a different profile when it reset? I noticed N Custom reset for me when I updated my profile (changed my name and settings etc..).

Also on a different note, has anyone with a manual i30n had issues with 1st and 2nd gear? Whenever I'm changing from 1st to 2nd and 3rd to 2nd, the car jerks quite a bit, even if I'm really careful letting the clutch out. It could just be me still getting used to the clutch but I've driven a manual for the last 6 years so I'd like to think I'd of got the hang of it after 330 miles 😂

I'm driving my manual N for over 90k now and I still can't change from first to second without jerking. Allways had manuals and done more than a million km's. Never had the same problem with an other car.
I'm ordering a dct in a few weeks: problem solved 😁

Damn, I would've hope it would get better with time but I guess not. My car is only a few days old so switching to dct isn't really a solution for me 😂 Oh well I'll just put it down to a characteristic of the car 🤷‍♂️

I know this and we do have it at work 😅

I have actually been instructed by a professional using this gauge.
It is actually very imprecise and you won't find any reference values of the OEM's.
It is alao quite expensive.
So the chance a dealer will have this gauge is very small.
And if so, he probably won't be able to evaluate the result.

However even if repainting or getting the PPF. Different people, different opinions, different needs. Everyone should do what makes them feel best.

In the end it is still a lowered price car.
In any case it probably won't have such a big influence on the resale value.
If you resell your car with chips, it will be one of many on the market.
So in worst case, you might have to lower the price max a few hundred Euros. The painting will cost at least 800 and the PPF propably over a thousand.
You will never see this money again, when reselling the car.

Just trying to help deciding how not to waste money.
Although, I am from Germany. Roads are not too bad here. The market for this type of car might be totally differemr in the U.S..

Peace out folks and do what makes you feel comfy!
Drive safe!

I have noticed this, too!
On 2 PFL and 1 FL!
I Think the 2nd gear is just a little bi&&"
Still ordered a MT!

Been driving today and no jerkiness. Just a tiny bit smoother on the clutch seems to do the trick.

Anyone else's leather on the back seats rather loosely stitched/fitted? Its not horrendous and to be honest I'd really prefer not to take it to a dealership for them to look at it as I hate taking my car to a dealership but it isn't the best.
