Ah guess again, there are paint thick gauges available for plastic bumpers and body parts;
The PosiTector 200 is ideal for non-destructively measuring the thickness of paint applied to plastic vehicle bumpers/fascias with or without ADAS.

. They‘re eddy current and ultrasonic gauges.
Auto paint meters used to test the coating thickness on ferrous and non-ferrous metal substrates.

This is just one of many available. Where theres a need, there’s tool available. I’ve seen them in us.

I know this and we do have it at work
I have actually been instructed by a professional using this gauge.
It is actually very imprecise and you won't find any reference values of the OEM's.
It is alao quite expensive.
So the chance a dealer will have this gauge is very small.
And if so, he probably won't be able to evaluate the result.
However even if repainting or getting the PPF. Different people, different opinions, different needs. Everyone should do what makes them feel best.
In the end it is still a lowered price car.
In any case it probably won't have such a big influence on the resale value.
If you resell your car with chips, it will be one of many on the market.
So in worst case, you might have to lower the price max a few hundred Euros. The painting will cost at least 800 and the PPF propably over a thousand.
You will never see this money again, when reselling the car.
Just trying to help deciding how not to waste money.
Although, I am from Germany. Roads are not too bad here. The market for this type of car might be totally differemr in the U.S..
Peace out folks and do what makes you feel comfy!
Drive safe!
