Probably me to be totally honest. Nice as the car is, I personally think its lost one of its selling point (IE. value for money compared to similar hot hatches). There are just far to many nice cars out there to be blinded by any sort of brand loyalty. Only my opinions guys.

It's a shame as Hyundai potentially have a really great car here, but their launch and pricing seem to have blown any chance of establishing themselves in the hot hatch sector. I see the FL i30N as a huge missed opportunity.

I fear that I'll be too old to be seen driving one when I next buy a car as the Clubsport is a bit more grown up - if I was younger and the i30N had been launched properly that would have been the car for me.

Nothing special, it remains a Golf. Yes, it is very quick, lot quicker than the new i30n, more comfortable, more luxurious, but definitely not as fun to drive as the i30n. :)
 
To be fair, when I was a bit younger I wanted a gti, I think most of us did, but ever since I moved to Germany I've seen so many people driving a gti that it lost that special appeal.

It's like your next-door neighbour Karen drives it, your grandpa drives it, your first grade teacher drives it. Can't really explain the feeling. The last few generations of gti turn heads as much as the basic golf model and that's something that is bothering me so much. A car with this much power should stand out from the crowd and yet it doesn't.

The Clubsport is a little bit more appealing on the outside but it just doesn't push the right buttons for me.

Also they need to fix the cheap looking aliexspress plastics around the screens, and all the fossil powered cars should still have normal buttons instead of touch sensitive buttons. You don't have time for that in a car with 300+ ps.

For owners of the i30N how fun is the manual transmission? I'm purchasing a 2021 i30N shadow grey prem manual. Haven't owned a manual for a while is it good?

I largely agree with you and RemcoV. It is a Golf GTi and they are relatively understated these days, but that appeals to me in many ways. The 'fun' question is more difficult, I have test driven a Clubsport and had a lot of fun, but most of us have not driven the FL yet. There's certainly less pops and bangs but they are still there when you want them.

The deciding factors for me were 1) availability 2) power and performance 3) value for money 4) it has ACC and dynamic lighting as standard 5) it's a Golf so parts, servicing are easy to find 6) it is well tested 7) it is VW's most important car so billions spent to develop and sort.

I still may look at new FL owners with occasional envy, but Hyundai have lost a new sale with me. My bog standard new Clubsport will be delivered on Friday, two weeks after my first enquiry with VW. That says it all really.

I'll still encourage friends to buy the FL if I think it's right for them but it's not the right car for me as it stands. I wish you all the best and hope it is the right car for you.

Are we talking the new MK8 Clubsport here as I specced one up and it was almost £40k?!
Is that value for money? Are they a limited edition?

Not a special edition mate. Dealers discount is quite heavy so you wouldn't pay anything like the website price. I'm paying just over £420 a month on 12k miles pa on a three year lease (not PCP). I haven't got a particularly great deal either as I couldn't wait and needed a stock car.

For others who don't like the touchscreens and prefer buttons - have you looked at the Seat Leon 300? Same engine as the CS, DCT gearbox but different switches.

Hyundai finance in the UK are offering 2.9% Apr to existing customers, Im buying the facelift and I'm saving money

Today I couldn't believe my eyes what was overtaking me on the road. F-ing i30N FL in Shadow Grey

Had my jaw dropped the whole time and couldn't believe what i was seeing (so didnt take a pic) because when I was asking the Hyundai dealer month ago about availability for a test drive, they told me they will receive the car in August (???)

So whoever is driving it already in Bratislava (Slovakia), reveal yourself and come pick me up for a drive 😍

Pretty please 🙏🏻

Who are you buying yours from?

I got my current car from Ingram motors (Kilmarnock). And they appear to have given up the Hyundai dealership, think they might even just have the garage in Ayr left now.

Welcome.

I have a manual 2019 and the box is pretty good. A little bit notchy and stiff, but still fun to use. The rev matching is also nice.

I don't currently own an i30N, but have a manual on order (Is it August yet?). I am a long term manual driver and loved the two drives I had of the 2020 i30N demo car. Absolutely loved swapping cogs in it.

Have fun, when you get yours.

Bought my first from Ingram's too, they have chucked Hyundai or Hyundai chucked them so I'm traveling down to Worcester to get the new one.

Good excuse for a road trip lol

I read a few articles on the new Clubsport lately and they were, let's say, not to enthousiastic about it.
One of the tests ended by this sum up, and I quote:
"The new Clubsport is a fast Golf Gti, but it's not a good hot hatch. A hot hatch is all about fun and driver involvement, whilst retaining day to day practicallity. The Clubsport lacks that driver involvement, it's just to sterile and to complicated to use (f.i. it takes a scroll through different menus just to turn the traction control off).
It's very expensive to, so not very good value for money. If I was to buy a really good hot hatch, I would be looking at a Megane Rs, Civic type r of Hyundai I30n."

I fully understand that people are really fed up with waiting for Hyundai to finally deliver the new N, but I would hang in there a little longer.

Unfortunately I didn't have time to wait otherwise I'd have loved to test the FL i30N hatchback. I obviously don't agree with that reviewer's conclusion and it would be an odd world if we had the same opinion and chose the same car. Looking forward to seeing your cars on the same roads as my CS.

See, this is what grinds my gears with the dealership network. If that's the case then why have they not been contacting current UK owners using Hyundai Finance actually telling them that there is a deal on for them to take advantage of for the FL.

Every other car manufacturer from as long as I can remember basically hassle you when a new version of your current car becomes available and do everything they can to get you in a new car.
