i30 N 2021 i30 N

I find it bizarre how people have paid deposits, have cars on the boat headed for delivery, yet still haven’t got a clue what they’ll be paying for it?? why is Hyundai so cagey about the price? it’s just weird.. Its got to be the longest and most dragged out facelift in history lol, thank God I’m not waiting for one, I would of lost interest ages ago..

Well to be fair, its either be teased excessively or buy a Golf GTI - if one doesnt know the right answer, just ask @GazmaN for a little enlightenment ;)

Absolutely it is, since Hyundai have been talking about introducing the car with a DCT since around 2016-2017.

Even the RN30 concept prototype had a DCT. It's been one hell of a protracted release.

The lack of pricing this late in the process is just the cherry on top for everyone who has been patiently waiting all these years.

I haven't paid a cent yet, and will not until I have a price. That and the dealer has yet hasn't asked for one. 😉

It’s just strange how Hyundai have been so quite with it all, the lack of transparency from them is not good, what’s the drama? it’s just the price of a car ffs, it’s not a matter of national security, they lost me as a customer, I was keen on trying out the i20N, but I knew for some reason that it’ll drag on and on, turns out I was right..

Well, if I stop and think about this seriously, I suspect that the potential reasons for the delay in pricing are going to be based on availability of semiconductor tech built to their specifications either used by them or used by their suppliers. This could be in the form of:
- Lack of overall availability means that they're filling out orders, but are unsure of what the landed price will be due to their accounting measures
- Uncertainty on stock distribution, resulting in uncertainty of how many cars they'll get allocated this CY/FY which in turn affects their pricing model over the life of the model this year (no sense in debuting one price, only to change it 5 months later due to stock issues)
- Prioritisation of the higher volume models taking away from parts availability of the i20n/i30n etc., in turn creating a scenario for the above items

An actual accountant can probably cover this more accurately, but are they handling component inventory via FIFO or LIFO, how is that cost flowing on to the per-unit price of each vehicle and in turn affecting what their pricing mechanisms look like over the life of the vehicle? Basically, if there's substantial cost fluctuations, they're probably waiting until the absolute last minute to send out pricing information.

Most of the semiconductor parts will probably reside with 3rd or 4th level suppliers, and they're probably seeing their pricing of parts increase exponentially as a result. Their contracts to buy certain volumes of parts will be in a state of flux, because they'll want to avoid single sourcing and in turn look to diversify to reduce costs (not that they'll likely get much, due to lack of fab time thats available).

I do think its a bit frustrating for all concerned, it'd be handy if they could release a price range but I also see the flaws with that - if they release a range, they might lose buyers who think it'll 100% be at the top end of that range and instead look elsewhere.

Its a tough situation, dunno what the answer is - plus this is all highly speculative. I'm most likely way off the mark here.

Except about silicon production - I'm trying to buy a new graphics card but I'm not paying outrageous numbers because AIBs can get away with their price gouging, due to chip shortages.

I was of the understanding that Hyundai/KIA had pre-purchased a significant amount of chips well before the shortage started which would have no real effect on production at either business. In a couple of months everything will be back to normal when supply exceeds demand again.

At which stage I wont care, as I will be smug driving around in my NEW CAR.

Yeah, that ran out so they're currently facing shortage issues and adjusting production accordingly.

My German friends have been strangely inactive in this thread since the homologation came out. At the same time, an increase of pops and bangs out in the streets 🧐

mine is still standing at the dealer and he doesnt get the papers..... -.-

I20N was no option for me, it just seems to slow from 140km/h onwards
I guess living in Germany you have the luxury of legally driving at high speeds, I lost my license for 3 months in my N for doing only 30km over the limit, so unless I’m on a track that means nothing, but the i20N will be more fun to drive than it’s bigger brother..

Not trying to start anything, but I actually like the idea of electric cars - the Porsche Taycan, Lucid Motor's design, even the new F-150 Lightning all look good to me.

There's been persistent speculation around an AWD i30N, seems to me a logical step would be to develop a hybrid i30N with electric power for the rear wheels and regenerative braking - entirely speculative, but it'd be a cool little weapon that'd be genuinely innovative in the market.

It’s not about looks, it’s what’s underneath, I want an engine, I want an exhaust, I want to change gears, I want sound, I want the smell of gasoline, I want a proper car, not some heavy electrical appliance..
