If you're going to install and aftermarket downpipe and desire to gain the hp improvement available, 3" catback is required. They go hand in hand with each other and get rid of any bottlenecks that restrict the increase exhaust scavenging. :)

Yeah, think I'll start with the Downpipe and then look into the midpipe/axelback when funds are liquid again. 😜
I found a cone K&N filter that fit our stock airbox on the forum somewhere. Might snag one of those till I get the Tekada. That or just use there drop in...

aFe Twisted steel down pipe ordered. Plan to install it myself once it arrives. Looks like everything is back ordered at the moment though. Figured while I was waiting I would ask if there is anything else I should get ahead of time. I have an 02 sensor removal took, swivel sockets, and blue thread locker. I plan to borrow an impact gun. But not sure if the DP comes with additional gaskets, nuts, bolts, or anything else I may need. Do most people reuse the OEM lugs? Never removed them from the turbo side before. Hoping the stock DP comes off easy enough, and I can simply reuse the OEM bolts with a little thread locker. 👍

I have one on order too. I would watch the SXTH youtube video a few times. It will help a lot. Also, the night before you do the bulk of the work soak the down pipe/turbo nuts and bolts overnight with wd-40. I am going to "paint" mine with a small foam brush so I don't get the wd everywhere. This will help a lot with getting them the off the next morning as they can be a bear! I think the new down pipe comes with new nuts for the down pipe to mid pipe connection. There is a youtube video of someone unpacking theirs. It does look nice... Hope these little tips help you.

Every bit helps! :) Yeah, I assumed we would get new bolts for the DP to mid pipe, just wasn't sure about the screws on the turbo to DP. I will definitely be soaking the screws the night before. Have fought a few downpipe and that always helps the process go a little smoother. Watched the SXTH video, but will def watch a fewer times before actually doing the work. Looks pretty straight forward though. Let me know if you get your before me and have any other tips. Otherwise best of luck to us both. :)

Thanks, I think I am going to have a local speed shop put it on. Just because doing it without a lift seems tough. And if they break a stud off or something it won't be on me to fix it.
 
I purchased a ton of stuff to do the job but I needed it all anyway. I already have an impact gun and all the swivels. The new down pipe does not come with new turbo housing bolts to attach the down pipe. I bought new ARP ones. Here is the link:


If mine come off and are in good shape, I am just going to re-use the old stuff and use some blue lock tite. I'll use that regardless... I bought the new studs/ bolts in case I run into any problems I already have a solution. Good luck to you my friend.

I'd have someone else do it too but I just don't trust anyone else. I'm thinking I will also do the clutch when it comes time to do so. Or I will drive it to Gen Racer and have them do it since I live in Ma and they are in CT. But, I am doing the down pipe. It's well within my capabilities... Just have to get the car high enough to be somewhat comfortable. I have 4 jack stands anyway and two trolly jacks. I do have to get a better light though. I'll probably get one of those old school ones "light-bulb in a cage" type thing...

Just take your time. If you get frustrated, back away from the install and come back later. Make sure, you get the car high enough to snake the downpipe out. Its a bit of a chore but not impossible. :)

Also, if you have a crows foot O2 sensor remover, remove both O2 sensors first. It will make snaking the top half of the old DP easier to take out and you don't risk breaking the lower O2 sensor. This is what I plan on doing. We will see if it's possible...
