Winter Wheels & Tyres

hi guys

I like the oem rims which are mounted on the n. But i need an other set of rims with tires. Niw i am not sure, what to do. Buy nicer rims for the summer and use the oem rims for the winter or buy cheap rims for the winter. So or so, i need your help, then i'm not sure about the size of the oem rims.

I found this in the manual, but i am not sure if correct: 8.0 j x 19. what about the et?

Which rims the guys here drive thru the wintertime?

This was also my first thought about the 19 in the winter. Thanks for your opinion. Are you going with:18x8 ET 42 or ET 45?
 
Mine are ET45 (standard is 55), so they are about 1cm wider than standard, but still have enough clearance.

Maybe its good to get some proper light weight 18s for summer like oz ultraleggera which are 5 - 6 kg less weight per wheel. Im sure the difference will be felt.
 
So, I think I need a little help on this one. I found some wheels I really like, but all the configurators I've used so far indicate that those won't fit my car and I don't understand why. Obviously they look like OZ's:

So, they look ok on paper, will they not fit?
I think they'll be awesome for winter wheels on a black N. :rolleyes:

Yes they will fit - the offset is 55 standard so they will just sit more flush against the arches but should look good without rubbing on the arch. Nice wheels.
 
That's what I thought for my micron grey one. They would be one of my first choices. I'm a bit confused which tires on which spec alloys..but nice overview and nice thread! Have to look for nice winter wheels too:)

And you know what, they cost half the price. I like that.

It's a shame that most websites here in Germany force you to use a configurator to even take a look at wheels.
And when you get past that part, it show only 19's and 20's only, despite the fact that 18's are the recommendation from Hyundai themselves.

Use the configurator and put down that you have an i40, then everything will work ;).

You do realise that the wheel you listed is 114 instead of 114.3? Also they are 1/2 an inch wider than what you need and they also have a different centre bore so you’ll need spigot rings.

Was so excited that I typed it wrong, you are right about the rings though.. Can they cause problems?
As for the 8 inch width, it is that bad for winter? Because I really like them, and obviously have no idea as it seems.

The wheels will sit 10mm further out in the arch and are 1/2 an inch wider, I’m not sure on how much clearance we have on the arches. Centre bore isn’t critical as spigot rings can solve this but it’s always nice to have a wheel that fits properly!

Well, I try and keep the thread as close as possible to Hyundai's recommended numbers.
I asked today a wheels/tyres dealer near me about this, he said 8x18 will be no problem at all and that I can even go for same width tyres in winter, because modern tyres are differently and more efficiently made than 10 years ago..
I don't know how accurate is what he said, but the very sad fact is that from 1000 wheels available on a site, 500 are winter proof, 100 are 18 inch, 50 are 7,5J and 10 with ET bigger than 45 and CB114,3. And they all look terrible to be honest. :confused:
The thread remains true to its purpose, to help people that want to go according to Hyundai's spec, or slightly offspec, because to be honest those are ALL the wheels I found so far to fit Hyundai's specs. It's pathetic. :rolleyes:

18 inch? And if yes, 225/40 or 235/40 tyres, if I may ask?

It depands what conditions are you trying to face, but in my opinion that is like saying you can leave your seatbelt off because cars are made much safer these days. A narrow tyre will give you superior grip on hard surfaces - like compacted snow or ice - when compared to wider, but otherwise euqual tyre, which in turn will do better in deep snow... If your winters aren't really snowy, or you keep to main, well maintained roads you could use regular width...

Well, to be honest, all the roads are well maintained where I live, because in winter it snows A LOT and they are always prepared, thank f**k for that.
Never seen a car wearing chains, they just drive slower and brake earlier.
But what the hell.. Let it slide and drift a bit, who cares, that's even more fun!!!
That way you can test that ABS is working properly too heeheehee.

These look like a popular choice , cheers. I had something else in mind, but haven't decided yet.

They are supposed to have superb economy and traction, on paper.. They're about 600EUR.
