Winter Wheels & Tyres

Hi guys,

I need an opinion, I cannot make a decision on what should I order for winter.
There are 3 options: 1, 2 and 3. Same 8J, ET45 but the price is different. 1 is the cheapest, 2 in the middle and 3 are over 120 Euros extra.

I really like the full black, but I don't feel like they deserve the price and also I really like the silver ones, but my friends are saying that I don't have anything on my PB to match with the silver and the black or diamond cut are better. For me diamond cut are kind of "meh".

So my question here is, what do you think about them? Do you think that silver would look like crap on a i30N PB?

You seem quite happy with the silver and don't want to fork out the coin for the black so I say "screw what anyone else thinks and get the silver". Anything I do to my car cosmetically (although not much to date) I do for my eyes only.

That said, you want others' opinions. I'm not a fan of the diamond cut look either - when (not if, hahaa) I damage the stock wheels I shall repair them if possible and paint them all black - but that is just me. Silver doesn't look crap, just not my cup of tea. I would not judge you regardless - hell, even if I did it is your car and it is you that must live with it, not I ;).

Also, diamond cut is a very fragile finish - really not ideal for winter (grit & salt will kill them quickly most likely!)
 
Managed to catch a good price for Rial Lucca Black, at the same price with the silver ones and of course I placed the order. At this moment they are in Germany, waiting for them to be dispatched.

In a few weeks they will be fitted and I will come back with photos.

Winter wheels on car. Brock B32 7.5x18/ET49.5 black matt and Continental TS850P 225/40 R18. It doesn't look hellaflush and that was a plan.
My dealer couldn't help me with the size selection, but they didn't give me a free hand either. I decided on the original winter size.
I put ceramic coating on them, so they are less matt than originally.

Yesterday I did put on new wheels. Didnt't want to choose something expensive so I chose one of the cheapest I could find and also decent looking.
Rims: R3 Wheels R3H08 black 8.5x18" 5/114 Offset 45
Tires: Hankook Winter i'cept Evo2 W320 225/40R18

My rx8 wheels refurbished into Graphite gray metallic and protected with Gyeon Rim ceramic. Center caps grinded down and made flat and then custom N logo stickers made to cover them.

I'm getting my N beginning of February, so going to need winter tyres, which I laready asked my dealership about. They made me two offers: Hankook Winter I*cept for €885 or Conti TS810S for €1,180. Both are 235/35 R19 and excluding fitting. Obviously it's way too expensive, so I checked my options when simply ordering online and would actaully go for either of the tyres as the tests don't seem to be too bad. I could get the set of the Hankooks for €560 and the Contis for c. €680, although I would then prefer to go for the TS850P, since it's a newer model and is apparently one of the best winter tyres according to various tests, would also cost only around €50 more for the set.

My question is, does anybody have experience with these tyre/size combinations? Where I live, the winters are unortunately 95% snowless, but around 0° and mostly wet, so I don't need the veyr best snow grip on the tyres (the 1-2 short ski trips per winter are negligible I'd say). So are the Contis worth the higher price, i.e. more comfortable or substantially better grip? They will be fitted on the standard 19 HN alloys, as I'm getting the OZ Hyper GT for summer.

In your place i would either go for Conti TS850P or Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4 in that case, if you're looking bit more budget go for the Hankook Winter i*cept evo2 :)
