My i20N

Excellent!
We are back to tyre chat. My fave subject!!
I will be getting my 4 new tyres in the next few weeks so I have been doing even more research than usual.
I had a chat with Snapper on this forum. He has Bridgestone Potenza Sport 225/40 and he loves them.
ChatGPT is a big fan of them too.
PS4S seem very expensive compared to all the other tyres - not worth the cost in my opinion.
There is an Evo version of the Potenza but I have not seen enough info on it so I will stick with the standard version.
I don't trust ChatGPT very much but here is a bit of what ChatGPT said...........

I’ve been rethinking my tyre options and I think I’m going to get Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S. Not a cheap option but tried and tested. Any thoughts?

I put on PS5's and slightly regret it and wish I went for PS4 S's instead. I don't really do enough mileage to justify the value prop from PS5's and would've preferred tyres with better dry handling performance. If I was doing a daily commute in the car or a lot of motorway miles then yeah sure, but given most of my driving is just leisure a more capable tyre would've probably been better suited.

Also there are some test's where the PS4 S's are only slightly worse than PS5's in the wet, so they're still quite capable for wet performance.

The main advantage to PS5's would've been the tyre life and wet handling (which again isn't that much better). Can't comment on SC7's though but would've taken them over PS5's too just for the improved dry perf.

Ithink, for me, I would like that sharp turn in of the PS4. I had a very spirited drive yesterday and whilst the GY asymetrric 6 has tremendous mid corner grip I would like it to turn in a bit sharper and have a touch more feedback.

I am particularly looking for feedback and steering feel. Hopefully the Potenza Sport will suit me.

ChatGPT is a big fan of...
...whatever was popular on the internet when its training data was scraped.
I always ask AI to provide references for where its info came from so i can verify its claims.

Sorry, i have to work with AI, and that means i have to be very aware of its biases.
It can be a great help in doing bulk work quickly, and i love it for doing config files because they are aren't prone to bugs ( they work or they don't) and they aren't a frontend app that can be full of vulnerabilities.
However, Just yesterday i had to scrap a change request because in review we found the AI hallucinated and flipped a value.

When I was a boy the sci-fi prediction for Ai was that it would be chillingly logical, regimented but fact based. Little did we know that it would actually turn out to freely lie and just imagine/hallucinate apparent ‘facts’. I realise that true Ai doesn’t (yet) exist but the current direction of development is certainly interesting.

Well it looks like my catch can, hose and adaptor should be here in a couple of days so the next job will be to offer it up to the car and see what shape the bracket needs to be. I’ll make a cardboard version of the one it comes with and see if that can be folded and cut to work. If not I’ll design one from scratch. The cheapest option would be to get it 3D printed (from plastic) and I don’t think excessive heat should be a problem in the intended location. I need to buy a few clips and some heat shielding for the pipe - but I’ll figure that out as I go along.

On other news, I’m loving the impact the Airtec torque mount has had - but the vibration at idle (in N mode) is comically pronounced - all different parts of the car vibrate loudly. It’s fine once the engine has warmed and you are on the move 🤣👍.

The new speakers in their pods are a massive success and sound fantastic. I’ve now stuffed them with some BAF wadding and they are completely finished. I‘m now left with some custom sail panels with Hertz Mille Pro tweeters in them that are completely spare and unused - I suppose I should sell them….

Oh, if any of you are interested, I have Powerflex Purple and Powerflex Black bushes for the lower torque mount - both are like new.

The Only Wireless CarPlay Adaptor You Will Ever Need

I’ve had a number of CarPlay adaptors - they plug into the wired USB socket and convert it to wireless so you can keep your Phone in your pocket or just on the charger pad without the need for a wire. All have worked pretty well - but I’ve just fitted the ‘final boss’.

£21.00 OTTOCAST MINI AIR Cube 4.0

This is a slightly odd as it doesn’t appear to exist other than on AliExpress, but as far as I can see it is a genuine Ottocast product. The difference between the standard model (I had that previously) is that this one will also allow full mirroring of your phone - I will explain.
When you get in the car and start it up, the infotainment system boots up and once you have clicked okay to the obligatory safety warning (I wish I could get rid of that) the wireless adaptor boots up almost instantly (quicker than the previous model). You can then choose normal CarPlay or Screen Mirroring. In screen mirroring (I think you have to activate screen mirroring on your phone each time) your phone screen is simply projected onto the cars screen. the cars touchscreen doesn’t work in this mode but by using your phone you can watch TV, YouTube - anything you can normally do on your phone. The good news is that latency -sound syncing to picture - seems perfect and the i20N‘s infotainment screen is really high quality with loads of detail, colour and brightness. Now I would not, and you should not, watch TV, films or YouTube whilst driving but whilst parked up it’s nice to have the option. The normal CarPlay (you can set this as the default in the menu system) works really well and exactly like the wired version.

The body of the Ottocast is aluminium and the front is glass - it’s simple and smart. You can get it in black or orange (perhaps also silver) and both type C and A USB (mine is black and type A). It works for iPhone or Samsung. Once the simple initial setup is done it pairs automatically each time after.
