My i20N

Seems to be one of those 'because we could' mods, but at least you tried and have them fitted anyway
Yes, I agree - no real good done but no harm either (thankfully 🥴).

So that’s it for current mods, I’ve now fitted all the bits I have.

Uprating the turbo is an option but I have a number of potential concerns. The first relates to engine longevity and also the clutch. Both of these are unknowns at present and I’m reluctant to be a test pilot. Almost more of a concern, for me anyway, is how the driveability of he car will be altered. Presumably there will be more turbo lag. Ideally I would get a drive of the Courtenay Sport car but, whilst I’m sure they would let me, they are a blooming long way from me and a bit far just for a test drive.

I love that kind.
Well, when I got this car and because I was able to buy it outright, I promised myself I was going to try out all the things I never had before on a car. I’ve really enjoyed all the DIY mechanic work with my mate Dave and both of us have gained loads of experience and confidence.
To be honest, I really did this mod just because it was there and I could and I didn’t expect a great deal from it. What did surprise me was how Powerflex breeze over the fitting of them and hugely understate the difficulty of getting the big bush out. If you don’t use a small diameter something to push on the inside there is a real danger you will break the plastic ring at the gear change.

Aid in fitment/videos/instructions has been a massive deciding factor in my mods as a novice 'mechanic', having to guess how they want them fitted or go by blurry photos still not from the company themselves is a turn off.

I now realise that many instructions include unnecessary steps, or skim over essential and/or difficult parts - often both.

I have done a little to the car today. Ages ago I made some N stickers for the front wings (fenders) but for a while I’ve been thinking they were placed a touch too forward and could also be a little bigger. I still have the original file I drew but decided it could be improved so ended up drawing it all over again from scratch 🤣.

This is what the looked like before - quite forward of the mirrors:

And this is what they look like now, closer to the door and a little larger:

Well, doesn’t time fly - it’s coming up to three years since I bought my N and so the firt MOT looms. In preparation for said test I have purchased some new front brake discs and pads. Perhaps surprisingly, making the choice of what to get has not been easy. This choice has been complicated by the fact my front brakes are now Brembo four pistons from the Renault Megane RS. It also doesn’t help that the i20N has one brake wear sensor on the drivers side and Brembo make a million brake variants and hundreds of companies make brake pads for them! On the other hand, my car still uses the stock brake disk dimensions and that limits the choice of discs to just a few makes.

I got an odd phone call yesterday. It was from the Hyundai dealer where I bought my car from and they were asking me if I wanted to sell it as they had a chap who was looking for one in Elemental Brass (as mine is). I didn’t get as far as finding out how much they would offer as I’m not selling - but I did tell them it was very unlikely they would find an EB one! They also mentioned a trade in on another Hyundai car but there isn’t another model in the range I would even consider.

In 20 years from now it will be worth a lot of money then! 😁
With our crappy damp winters in the UK with loads of salt on the road I will be surprised if any of the i20n haven't rotted away.😄

Any of us that didnt buy the baby blue will have rarer cars on our hands at least (and better colours 👀)
Not the first post ive seen about dealers contacting owners if they want to sell their cars back.

Yeah, I think the baby blue accounted for nearly 60% of all those sold - but then it was a unique colour to the i20N. There’s a chap on one of the Facebook groups who has been collecting figures on the numbers of cars sold in each colour - I’ll see if I can message him.

I got Baby Blue with Black roof the main reason being it was the only one at the dealers with a Bose, I do like the colour though to be honest

I’ve just spoken to Dan at RPM performance and will shortly be receiving their new tunnel brace. In fact it’s so new it’s not on their website yet. They are also about to release front and rear strut braces - but I already have the German versions of these (soon to be discontinued).
Front strut brace is already nowhere to find; this is the RPM Performance one, can someone give me a review?

That doesn’t match the picture I’ve seen of the RPM design, though perhaps it has been changed. In any case, if this is the RPM design then this is a pre-production sample because they aren’t listed on the companies website. I would also say that the brace pictured looks like it is really intended for the i30N as it is offset toward the front (which is needed in the i30N but not the i20N).

Sorry, confused Facebook sites, this one I got sent by Parts Dealer UK. Do you have a picture from the RPM Performance one?
