I would take it seriously and get rust protection. There are lots of articles in Norwegian papers describing rust problems on new cars. I would go for lanolin based protection, not Tectyl or similar. Tectyl should only be applied on a brand new car, by experts. Otherwise rust can develop/continue under the coating. Using Tectyl is a trick some use to cover up a rusty car before sale. Lanolin creeps into seams and cracks and you can easily repair the car without breaking the coating like Tectyl. Also lanolin can easily be applied to an already rusty and not clean car.
