Issues with 5th/6th gear (and 1st/2nd)

Do you know if they replaced the parts with some upgraded/revised parts, or did they remove the old shonky parts and replace with the same (but new) shonky parts?
That i do not know :| it doesnt get stuck though. Just hard to push it into gear now. As to before where it got stuck.

I have finally got my car back and gears seem ok although 1st to 2nd isnt always smooth. I have my 12 month service in a couple of months so will monitor before then

Out of all my gears 1st has been the stickiest for me. My old car with a TR6060 was the exact same so I'm not too worried but we'll see if it gets worse or better.

I gave it a b road trip around villages today and was as smooth as ever, mainly commute along motorway so think I need to drive it more varied

Yeah I've found in my time with performance cars the gearboxes are at their smoothest when giving it the beans.

I always rip the gears through. No soft shifting. Like 1st=>ka-CLACK=>2nd=>CLACK=>3rd and so on... :D:p Experienced that if I shift "too soft" that the 1st/2nd gear won't engage properly and sometimes the 1st even jumps out (god that noise i hate it:confused:).

Yup same here, 1st will only engage half way if I've been soft with it. Giving it the beans with a good throw feels completely smooth which has been the same for most of my performance gearboxes ive owned. It does seem the 4th and 5th was a genuine issue though. I wonder what the fix was, they didn't recall any other gears so I'm curious as to why it only affected those two.

So I've been a long time lurker, even before I ordered my car in January 2018 I was already looking around on this forum. I wasn't planning on posting anything either as I don't feel like I've got something to add.

But I do want to say a massive thank you to all of you addressing this issue and making this topic :). My car had 6th gear issues, it locked it out from time to time. I was doubting myself whether it was me not being used to a sporty 6 gear transmission box or if it was actually the car. Unfortunately I didn't felt confident enough to actually take it back to the dealer, as it only occurred occasionally and thus made it hard to explain and let them feel/understand what the issue is. But after seeing this topic I made sent an e-mail and got a super quick response (was on a sunday)

After having let someone from the garage who owned an i30N test drive it he told me that it indeed feels a bit rougher going to 6th gear as with his own car. So we made an appointment to replace 6th gear.

It took a while to get all the parts, we even had to reschedule the appointment, but once I brought the car in I lost it for only 3 working days and I got a free replacement car.
When picking up the car they told me that 6th gear indeed didn't look that pretty anymore and also in the oil they found some tiny bits of metal. And Hyundai also instructed them to replace 5th gear, so they did.

Now that I got my car back for a while I can say the issue is resolved, 6th gear works absolutely perfect. And also 5th gear feels a lot smoother, even though I never had issues with that.

So long story short, thank you Hyundai for the great service and thank you all on this forum for giving me the confidence to take it to the dealer :).

I've got a 2019 model and I have the issue, so I guess you aren't really safe. Although I would guess Hyundai fixed the issue eventually on the newly produced ones. Question is when did they start fixing the issue out of the factory...

You can see the numbers from when the improved parts have been installed, in post #61 of this thread.

I have a car thats newer than those numbers and I still have the issue
Mine is also newer and I feel like I have the issue too. I don't know how bad it has been for others but I have a definite feeling that my 5th and 6th don't engage smoothly sometimes. While I've never not been able to engage them it has taken quite a pull sometimes. Other days there is no problem at all and I can't decide what causes it, doesn't seem to be outside temperature.

Guys... I'm starting to get scared a bit when I read all of this. How bad is this problem and can Hyundai repair it completely? In addition to the transmission problems, there are also some other things that dont work well at the N, huh. I dont like to reading all of this, in relation to the fact that I want to buy the N.

No worries. Remember 5yrs of warranty and I do not recall anybody having huge issues with his N.
The 5th/6th gear issue is nothing that bothers me. I am just bringing it up, because I am booked in for my first service and thats a thing they will take a look at. Use this thread for an overview of potential issues you may face when buying an N. But remember, most of them are already recognized by Hyundai, so it's unlikely you will have them on a brand new car: https://n-cars.net/forums/threads/i30n-common-issues-recalls.2108/

That's exactly what I've got. I even have it sometimes that 6th won't engage at all, so I need to go back to 5th and afterwards try it again.
If it is an issue with the synchros I would have expected to hear some sort of clunking or grinding. I've been wondering if it's actually an issue with the linkage and it's loose or not positioned correctly. I would mention it to my dealer but I have zero confidence in them after my last encounter. I might take it to another dealer or check it out myself.
