Issues with 5th/6th gear (and 1st/2nd)

Only had such problems twice (3300 km so far), while shifting to 2nd, applying same amount of force as usual (gentle push, not shove), the gear shifter didn't go all the way through...but I guess baby loves it rough!?

VIN 5708 here with 7000km and no issues with gear box :) however I've noticed the clutch is starting to feel a little different... Probably my driving style but hopefully just bedded in.
Hey @simmo777. My interpretation of this TSB is that we need to find our transmission number to determine if our vehicles are U01Y or U02Y. Then based on what trans number you have you then look at the VIN to ensure you have a higher (later) build than the numbers listed.
As your VIN in below both the VIN numbers my guess is your transmission requires the updated part when or if shifting into 6th cog becomes an issue for you.
Alternately look at your build plate to get the exact build date. Mine is August 18 so I think based on my VIN and the build date I just scrapped through and should have the "improved parts" as listed in the TSB notes.
Hope you are in the clear too.

Hey all,

Does anyone have any issues getting the car into 6th gear?

Mine doesn't seem to flow into 6th as it does the rest of the gear - particularly while driving in ECO.

Dave

In Korea, there is a issue with VelosterN in 5th and 6th gear.
I also think there is a problem with the shift.

At least they've got a technical bulletin on the go, looks like they're replacing it without too much trouble.
I'm outside the VIN range, so I'll just pretend it's smooth as butter into 6th for a bit longer!

Mh, my VIN is a 4145 but I'am affected by this issue. Will give my dealer all the info provided here.

We'll see what happens.

Mine is VIN6610 August 18. But i don't know my gear issue is the modified one or not. Randomly when i try to change gear to 6th from 5th, the shifter is a little bit harder to move, it's stuck a little at the middle position. But i can shift to it (i noticed only once i can't shift it). But if i shift very slow the shifter always go to it, some times a little bit stuck. This problem is the issue? Or this is normal?

Oh wait, did I read that bullitin wrong?

It says: From Job#1, which I assume means first car build to ...

So that would be every car build up to VIN 5783 in year 1 (U01Y) and every car up to VIN 6034 in year 2 (U02Y).

Where U0XY seems to be the model year.
And that would be every car build before August 13. 2018.

Did I understand that correct?

@Varmint I don't think so, because they have the same year code in the VIN? Which is K on this one, I think, so 2017

**ETA*** I'm wrong... K is 2019, not 2017 . So all the cars are included by the looks of it >_<

I think you understood it better than I did. :(

Sounds similar to the behaviour on mine.

It wouldnt do any harm to take it in for them to have a look at the very least. Just show them the image i attached in the above comments of the "TSB" notice. They should be able to trace if yours is within the specified part/VIN numbers for sure, that being said if you are experiencing what you mentioned above then its more than likely the same issue.

My take on it is that i understand with modern transmissions the tolerances are tight, (I.e shafts, linkages and leavers) and i suppose theese components would free up with wear over a period of time (Bedding in) but shifting gear on a car less than 12 months old should be no trouble whatsoever.

So again my advice is take it in for them to investigate if you have doubt. Time to use that 5 year Hyundai warranty.

This is strange because I had this issue when the car was new and the gearbox felt tight, it would slot half way into 6th and then need an extra shove - but only occasionally. I just put it down to the car being set up for track use with a stiff clutch and gearbox. Since the car has been run in and tracked a few times, the issue has completely gone.

I've been reading this thread and tried to re-create it over the last few weeks but cannot.
Seems very strange that Hyundai are acknowledging it as an issue which can be fixed but mine has effectively fixed itself. You would have thought it would only get worse but thankfully I won't need to take the car in.
