Issues with 5th/6th gear (and 1st/2nd)

You're wrong; the gearlever is sprung towards the centre, i.e. the 3-4 channel. Changing between gears 1 and 2 requires pressure to the left, and between 5 and 6 requires pressure to the right. I think that's what @Hoodoo_Op. is alluding to. Or maybe your gearbox is more buggered than everyone else's :)
Pretty much. If you drive quite sporty and not shift like a grandma you start to force the gears in nonetheless. You can't risk to accidentally slip into 4th when at 6000 rpm in 5th, so I give it just a slight bit of movement to the right as well, just to make sure. But this doesn't seem to work with our N-gearbox.

Both of you missed the point: I never said this was the reason, in fact the opposite if you read the last few lines lol. But forcing the lever anywhere is never good :) and it is possible to be smooth and fast ;-)

“But this doesn't seem to work with our N-gearbox.”

Please don’t generalize about the N box, universally the reviews have specifically praised the gear box and how slick it is (as have people here) - and yes on the track too...by people who don’t change like a grandma ;-)

@Davo01, you wrote "Any force to the right is wrong". That's how you change from 5th to 4th. You must push right to change from 5th to 6th. Let's leave it there.

I'm not impressed by my gearbox. 2nd to 1st can be reluctant. Changing into 6th baulks a couple of times a journey. It's not how I change, it is a fault. I am putting up with it until Hyundai has an actual fix.

So, dealer has today confirmed that my car has issues with 5th and 6th. As it was a car build in 2019 it already has the modified gearbox so at the moment there is no know fix, dealer waiting to hear back from Hyundai UK about what they can do.
on the verge of rejecting the car.

That's interesting, as mine is a 2019 build and it has the issue going into 6th.

I thought it had magically fixed itself as it hadn't done it for about 10 days or so, but then it did it on the first change into 6th this morning.

Let me know how you get on please Phil!

Currently still waiting for a call back from the dealer but apparently my car is on the ramps in pieces and they have extended my loan car... i10 for longer by the sounds of it.

I have reported the issue twice already. Dealership is not aware of TSB at all. The technicians haven't confirmed the issue and I'm stuck now.

During my first week driving car(2019 VN with Performance Pacakge), I too was struggling to get into 6th gear. However, as time went on I noticed that if I waited until tacometer indicated that It was time to shift up that was when I was able to shift into 6 with ease. If I shifted from 5 to 6 a few RPMs early, the gearbox would prevent me from shifting into 6th gear(no grinding noise, it just sits there but does not go into 6th). Im not sure if I should bother Hyundai about it or just change the Transmission fluid.

Not that it should really affect shifting but out of curiousity what speed or rpm are you shifting into 6th that is before the car suggests it? Seems I'm almost always a gear or 2 behind what it suggests.

At 40 mph(64 kmh), I would normally shift from 5th into 6th gear before the ECU suggests it. Sometimes It would work, other times I have to give it at least a second before it gets into gear without any grinding feedback. Anything above 40 mph in 5th and the car would start to indicate that I can shift into 6th gear with little to no effort. The car currently has 2,271 Miles.

Funny thing, I actually tried to follow the indicated gears as closely as possible today and I had not one bad shift. Drove around 50 km country roads. Might be a coincidence because I really don't see any connection between the gear indication and the actual process of shifting tho.
Usually I shift into 6th at about 70 km/h and have issues pretty much every shift, sometimes more sometimes less. The shift-indicator starts to pop up at around 76 km/h. I'm so confused now, I just don't believe this has anything to do with the indicator but it was extremely smooth today somehow.

It has been smooth for me lately. I'm not saying that mine has a synchro or gearing issue. But, out of all the manual transmissions that I've experienced. This one makes me finesse with the timing of my shifts. I think when its time to replace the transmission fluid, it might be different.

I seem to also be having issues with 6th gear, and 2nd lately too. Warm car, low speeds, not sure what's going on there. 5th seems to be totally fine and engages well in all conditions, cold or warm!

I will mention it at my next dealer visit which funnily enough is also gear related, but it's just a squeaking noise from the gear shifter (they said it just needs more grease).

I will let you all know how I get on.

Due to this thread I got a notification and I will be taking my car to the dealer tomorrow morning with provided documentation from this thread and let them decide what to do as always I will reply back to let you all know what happened.

I reported this problem before but Hyuandi said to me there is no problem with your car funnily enough, yet always 5th and 6th gear always sticks like crazy half gear in 6th i'm beginnin gto be totally fed up with thsi scenario.

I solved issue with 6-th gear by installing Forge short shifters and Powerflex trans mount.
Lucky you, but of no use to me as I am not mechanically minded. The GF brother can take any engine apart and rebuild it with better performance than what it was when it was brand new but while under warranty to do so yourself might invalidate warranty, now concerning the problem to do that job yourself and if something worse happened then Hyundai would love to be able to wash their hands of any future warranty claims so to be 100% certain Hyundai can do this job for free while I toot about in a Hyundai I10. How long should this job take concerning a dealer.

Taking out, dismantling, replacing synchros, collecting all together, mounting in to the car... I'd say 2 work days.
Thank you. I go up tomorrow at 12 noon tomorrow evening I will report back as to what they say about the TSB& SI Local paper can’t wait to see the master mechanics face as he stated to me today on the phone there are no recalls or any reported issues with gears sticking. Well they know my 6th gear sticks as I have already reported said fault last service that would have been February 2019.

just be mindful of parts availability. I've had the best treatment from my dealer but in the end, after 1 month of waiting, they just took gearbox from new car and fitted into mine

this is to say that they can order everything and you can still drive your car! don't leave it there if you're waiting for spares

Mine got done in a day. I took it in when they had the 5/6th syncros and gears and the 2nd day in the morning i picked it up.
