Completely sealed. Hood is a heat source in reality, from both outside and inside which equates to higher heat soak over longer engine running periods. Less chance of direct water ingestion, I keep my engine sprayed off. Cleaner filter.

Reading are different for every dyno and ambient conditions. Most of the differences have to do with the amount of actual air the filter element allows, the size of the power pulse and IAT's. The only appreciable difference is the hood and it's inability to shed heat from inside and outside ambient conditions.

The Momentum intake is, dependant upon outside air, without the heat soak of the hood.

@TarmoT has already developed his maximum torque and hp by use of a closed air box. So you have some direct comparable data to refer to.

Couple either, with a Velossa Tech Ram Air Snorkel and Bobs your uncle! :)

That's the plan! Thanks! A good point about heat soak from the hood. Not sure how hot my hood will get from the sun here in Oregon, but it definitely will get hot from the engine. Think that just made my mind up for me. 😜

Might do take a spin on some back roads and take a temp reading of the hood first, but definitely leaning momentum now. :)

Intake installed! Super easy install. When driving around town I didn't notice any decernable difference, but as soon as I hit the back roads I could feel much better throttle response. I also like the added sound with the plug out. Might route a cold air supply to there in the long term, but for now it works great!

Hey. Your website says that this filter does not need oil treatment.
I bought such a filter and it has been processed from the factory with something similar to oil from the outside, if you touch it, your hands become greasy and greasy marks remain in the air filter box.
What it is?

Not MY website.

The filter in this link is a dry filter. You purchased/received an oiled filter. Read the instructions that came with the filter for proper use and care.

hey, so i hear a lot of this and other ppl saying its worthwhile. I only plan to get a better filter and a snorkel. Must ppl say getting a better filter is worth it, so still unsure!

I'm going the snorkel, filter, airpipe, turbo intake route. Airpipe and turbo intake are Gruppenzwang (Purchased, not yet received) and filter is Pipercross (Installed). You don't notice much difference when you drive unless you're at higher revs but the money is worth spending so the car can breathe better (I've never owned a car that I haven't upgraded the filter on and I've been driving for 22 years). Throttle response will slightly (not really noticeable) improve but unless you change the entire system you (personally) won't notice much of a difference.

That open cone intake system was tested by me without remap and with remap. Remap changed nothing at all because car just does not need more air. Oem filter and air box will work perfect until 420 bhp. My 380bhp run was also done by using Oem filter and air box.
The only benefit I can see here is just having cooler IAT-s. Cooler IAT-s will push (even remaped ECU) to adjust ignition timing. With colder ambient temps and IAT-s my ECU changed ignition timing even 2-degrees.
Hi, so you're saying there was no difference in performance after installing the new filter and snorkel? I'd have thought both combined would have increased HP and engine efficiency as its letting in more cool air so car can suck in more fuel?

Back in the day I was asking the same questions and in the meantime I have tested it myself (and there are also countless real tests on YouTube) and the car just doesn't need more air (until the power @TarmoT mentioned). The OEM parts deliver enough air for a lot more power, @Alba-i30N.

It does make the engine more efficient. It allows an increase in CFM and cooler denser air. This aids in the production of increased horsepower. The snorkel and the new higher flowing filter move more CFM then the OEM setup but you're not going to notice any increase in horsepower on a dyno.

The real limiting factor is the turbo. It will only flow so much air, no matter what it input. The engine is set up and tuned to take advantage of the stock turbo and air box design. So you will see smaller higher increases in horsepower, over a longer sustained period of engine use. As engine temps and heat soak rises, the IAT's will remain cooler then with the OEM setup.

Flowing a higher volume of cooler air while the car is moving, is the advantage and reduces IAT's that can't be measured on a dynamometer. So the longer the engine is run, you'll see more of a distinct advantage over the OEM Air box and filter.

This ^ is where the true difference is measured and made, not on a dynamometer. Dynamometers are static measurement tools and cannot provide the necessary engine data over a longer running period. They're made for short term sampling of optimal and peak power measurements only.:)

hi guys , im planning to get a aftermarket air intake , but i can't deside wich i go for . pipercross or forge , or something better , i want the tututu sound wich one does that job well ?

You'll get that sound as soon as you have at least a semi-open intake. The sound gets louder and more noticeable if you have a bigger intercooler as well.

Personally I have the ITG Maxogen cold-air intake kit. Retains the OEM piping and can be dismounted/cleaned easily while still allowing you to wash your engine bay without drowning your filter, as it is semi-closed.

Hello,

Maybe you can help on this.
I recently bought an i30 N from Hyundai Holdcroft in England. It appears that the car has a Pipercross air filter fitted. I am wondering if this is a series part fitted by Hyundai on the N variant or if the previous owner changed the air filter ?
I can't really find an answer on Google as I see a lot of N (i30 or Veloster) with Pipercross air filter. Also I have no proof of someone paid for a new air filter.

Very likely it was replaced by the previous owner.

Hey, have you installed these parts yet?

Any opinion? I'm looking to go this route aswell, any heads up would be greatly appreciated!

...have to receive them to install them. Avoid GRUPPENZWANG at all costs!!! I was promised my parts would be sent 2 weeks ago. Nothing. I might have to get my lawyer involved to get my money back.

@JAYtheVET how did you pay them, :) PayPal or something else?

If you did it by credit card, simply call the CC company and have them contest the charge. They will immediately credit the amount to your account and then investigate the company. :)

Hi , do you still like the ITG Maxogen ? Looks good , so many cold-air intakes to choose from. Time for me to do some research. Cheers Michael
