i20N fuel economy

Not sure how you managed to get 40mpg in the i30n,mine was like half of that, although taking into consideration London traffic and short stop start journeys, never got anywhere close to 40mpg..
Will agree on the 20 being way more economical,50% better than the i30,at around 35mpg.
See ‘average speed cameras’…30 mile commute, mainly motorway, 90% roadworks now.

Economy update.

The last 398km took 25.75L = 6.47L/100km

Over the last 2,077km the average is now 6.69L/100km

4500km on the odometer and it's using less every time I fill it up.

My fuel consumption outside of highway driving or cruise speed is 12L/100 idk how u manage any less 😂

I've never seen anything like that. I also have a 370Z auto and average about 9.7L/100km with that, again for all driving over thousands of kms.

The only things that I do which reduce fuel consumption are to drive gently until the oil is warmed up and use the brakes as little as possible. Braking throws away the energy used to gain momentum. There's not the same pleasure braking as there is in accelerating and cornering so shifting down through the box and just tapping the brake from about 20kph is more fun and saves a lot of fuel.
It also saves money because my last car had 90% left on the original brake pads at 75,000km plus it's safer because the brakes are held mostly in reserve.

Mainly motorway miles would do the trick for those numbers.👍
Depends on speed. At least my mileage tanks near 120km/h. At 100km/h it's close to 6.6l/100km but at 120 it's closer to 8 and faster than that even more. At 50-80 km/h it's really economical though. And if someone can manage not to floor it when accelerating every now and then, pretty economical in city driving.

I'm certainly getting better than that and it's always in N mode. 110- 120kph is in the high 5's for me. About 5.6 - 5-8L/100km.

motorway (n cumstom with everything on max and esp on) : 100-130 kmh approx. 6.9 litres, 200-230 kmh approx. 9-11 litres
country road (normal mode): 80-100 km/h approx. 6.7-7.0 litres
town driving (normal mode): 30-50 km/h, approx. 6.6-6.9 litres

My fuel economy varies massively, much like everyone else's. I can easily hit the low 20's (MPG) on a spirited drive, or if I'm on a long journey its not a total surprise to get 50 MPG.

My drives so far have been a good mix of both.

For the lifetime of the car, I've just hit 40.1 MPG over 4000 miles.

No idea if this is good or bad, but its certainly good fun 👍.

Edit: For info, I've only ever used 98 RON fuel (UK).

That's very similar to my 42.2 mpg over 2,000km and right on the 41mpg that it's rated at.

After all this extreme low consumption posts i tried it myself. Well, surprisingly it wasn´t too hard.

That's very impressive.

It's rarely mentioned but this engine is quite unique by having the revolutionary CVVD variable valve dwell angle. Could that be the reason it's so economical?

Apparently it's the reason the boost falls at higher rpm yet it still puts out the same power there as the previous version without CVVD which holds boost. The efficient flow at higher rpm with CVVD maxxed out is so demanding it's crying out for a higher flow compressor to supply that need.

Thought I’d chip in - also my first post on the forum :)

Current MPG in i30N DCT sitting at ~31 (that’s after 12,000 miles). On a good motorway run best I ever managed was around 43mpg (Edinburgh to London). Around my local in London 25 is good. And on a slightly longer local run in London (a bit of A40 in/out central and the likes) I can get anywhere from 30-33. I wouldn’t say I rag the tits out of it, hence the figures, but wouldn’t call it granny driving either.

Reading all these posts about fuel consumption, I wonder what I'm doing wrong. Or maybe what I'm doing right :) 90% of the time, I'm above 7 l/100 km (33.6 MPG).

I've done almost identical kms as you, with almost identical L/100km figures.

That's good to see. There are so many others that get really crap figures it's hard to understand why because I certainly use the performance when I can?

Are you light on the brakes too?
