Technical bulletin for misfire/high pressure fuel pump

Hyundai service have had my car for a week now, sent the injectors off the be check to try find the cause of my misfire/3 cyl mode. This started back in Nov 2019 & was never actually resolved the car just 'worked' for a while. Was in and our of the service dept countless times. They don't actually know what's wrong....still. Probably aren't aware of ECU/Pump issues on the 2018 cars. Mine is a Mid 2018 build. I've done 80 thou so the plugs were replaced at previous service.
Would love for them to say we're going to get a fuel pump, ecu, injectors but not the case. Very much a test, advise technical & wait to see what they say. Dead set most unreliable car I've owned.

For a few weeks now, my N has been randomly starting up roughly on cold starts. It's happening more often now, and today I finally managed to record it. Sorry about the climate control at the beginning.

Reading this post, I wonder if this ECU/fuel pump problem could be related to what you see and hear in the video. So far, apart from the rough start, I haven't noticed any loss of power, just a bit of jerking for a few seconds when driving at low speed in the morning. It hasn't had any "limp mode" either.

I have been to the dealer a couple of times, and as usual, I was told that the car was not showing any fault codes and that the problem I described, had not been replicated. Tomorrow I will go again to see if this time with the video, they can identify what might be wrong.

My i30N is registered in January 2019, it has 47,000 km, fully stock and all maintenance has been carried out at the dealership.

What do you think, could it be the ECU/fuel pump? A friend told me that the first "scratchy" noise might be the starter motor.

No es el motor de arranque. Me pasaba lo mismo y me han cambiado dos veces el motor de arranque y una vez la bomba de altas... y me sigue pasando.

Si pudiera devolvería el coche hoy mismo. Hyundai se desentiende de este problema. Son unos cabrones, así de claro.

¿Y te lo hace con el motor en frío o caliente? A mí me lo suele hacer en frío pero ayer, creo que por primera vez, lo hizo con el motor caliente justo al arrancar después de repostar.

Estuve en el concesionario la semana pasada y después de ver el vídeo, el jefe de taller no supo decirme que puede tener el coche. Ha hablado con el jefe de zona (es una concesión pequeña) y tengo que dejar el coche allí el 2 y el 3 de agosto. Vendrá, supuestamente, un técnico especializado. A ver que dicen.

Does it do this when the engine is cold or hot? It usually does it to me when the engine is cold but yesterday, I think for the first time, it did it with the engine warm when I started the car after refuelling.

I was at the dealership last week and after seeing the video, the workshop manager couldn't tell me what could be wrong with the car. He has spoken to the area manager (it is a small dealership) and I have to leave the car there on the 2nd and 3rd of August. A specialised technician is supposed to come. Let's see what they say.

Normalmente en frío. Por las mañanas y después del curro.

I couldn't drop the car off at the dealership until late last week because they had a couple of Covid-19 cases.

The workshop manager told me that the technician performed several tests on the car but did not give any errors on the fuel pump, spark plugs, ECU, etc. Nor was there a pending update or any brand recognised fault in any of those parts. He said the technician reset and recalibrated the software. But he couldn't tell me exactly what he did. He had no idea.

That said, after picking it up from the dealer, I notice that the car is running more smoothly. It hasn't done the same thing as in the video but it does start better and doesn't jerk in first gear when the engine is cold.

No pude dejar el coche en el concesionario hasta finales de la semana pasada debido a que tenían un par de casos de Covid-19.

El jefe de taller me ha comentado que el técnico realizó varias pruebas en el coche pero que no dio ningún error en bomba de combustible, bujías, ECU, etc. Tampoco había una actualización pendiente ni ningún fallo reconocido por la marca en alguna de esas partes. Según dijo, el técnico reseteó y recalibró el software. Pero no supo decirme exactamente que es lo que hizo. No tenía idea.

Dicho esto, después de recogerlo del concesionario, noto que el coche va más fino. No ha vuelto a hacer lo del vídeo pero si se nota que arranca mejor y no tironea en primera marcha cuando el motor está frío.

I have the same issue but a bit worse because it does it with a warm engine as well. Seen this issue mentioned quite a few times here.

I have over 10 videos of my car staring like this. Dealer still couldn't do anything about it because there are no fault codes. Their advice was to try using different fuel (I rolled my eyes dramatically).

I've pretty much decided to live with it until it gets unbearable. It does it about once every 10 starts. If it gets to 5 out of 10 with still no fault code, I'll just pay for a new fuel pump, injectors and spark plugs 😓


On a side note, I've noticed that a properly spirited drive (over 100km of giving it the full beans) solves the issue temporaraly for me. It starts normally for a couple of weeks before it gets rough again.

I have taken it in several times and the response of the dealer has always been that as there are no fault codes, to come back if the problem becomes more frequent.

In my case it only does this from time to time, although last spring it started up like this several days in a row. Then it might go for a month without doing it, and so on.
 
4th time my car goes to the garage.

Now they change the starter motor (3rd one), the high pressure pump (2nd time), the inyectors and the flywheel.

In 10-15 days I have my car back. I'll tell if it's solved.
