My i20N

Perhaps, but I enjoy it. It’s not been built for this type of track though, it’s intended more for sweeping, twisty roads and not short figure 8 tracks. If this had been a CarWow battle the cars would have been drag racing and it’s not intended for that either.

I didn't say it in my youtube comment, because I was only interested in the message to you and who am I to tell Sam what to do..... But 🤣.... I felt if he used more trail braking or some left foot braking to get the rear to help a bit more then he would have found the rotation he was seeking. Just my opinion but I have seen that play out with our car.
As you said, a bit of fine tuning of suspension and mapping to suit that track and he would find some big time gains.
STI fans can be so precious because STI's aren't the car they once were, it's sad but they need to face facts. I'll be the same in 2 generations of i20Ns if they're still around I think.
I’ve got no issue with the STI but some of its owners are more like followers and will argue black is white to the bitter end 😂.
The whole thing is just intended as a bit of lighthearted fun and not some sort of line in the sand regarding which car is best and absolute track times.

Yeah it would benefit from a longer sweeping track where it can get the power down in the higher gears, still an awesome piece of kit.👍

Anyway, I think this concludes my dabbling with YouTube. I’m not sponsored or related to any company so there’s no benefit in any associated social media presence and the cars sole purpose is to be a fun toy for me that will also transport me from A to B 🤗.

My car appears on yet another YouTube channel and it’s well worth a watch:

After watching it my first thoughts are thus:

My car is fitted with an adjustable rear sway bar and it’s set to the most conservative. If this was adjusted it would make the rear rotate more easily and that might be more to Sam’s liking. I could also adjust the throttle response to something less ‘twitchy’ and Sam might prefer that. Finally, it will rev up to 7K and produces power right to that redline - perhaps a touch more could be squeezed out if a gear lower were selected…. but I’m no racing driver (unlike Sam) and I’m sure Sam knows better than I do 👍.

Saw this pop up on my feed before I saw this here! Instantly recognised the car haha.

What an awesome video. I've actually been a fan of their channel for a little while (Max reviewed the i20N the same week I bought mine!). I loved the fact that Sam enjoyed driving the car. He's a really impressive driver so I value his opinion highly (and his skills are far better highlighted here than on carwow's drag strip lol).

On the fuel starvation, that was quite surprising and I don't even think it's a regular problem brought up by owners that track theirs regularly. A quarter tank is on the low-ish side but still wouldn't have expected that to happen under the conditions. I would be pretty inclined to think it's something related to the fuel pump fitting but I'm no expert haha.

I want to say around 14:27-14:32 in the video is where the fuel cuts out? It's momentary but couldn't really see where else.

Appreciate you taking your car to them! Made for some fun content to watch!

Also, the JCW in that vid is a 2 door with a not-great auto gearbox and costs more.
When i bought my i20n, its extra doors and ample back seat put it way ahead of most other small cars, and manual was high on my wants list. The car industry can pry my knob out of my cold dead hands.

Yes, loads. I actually bought mine direct from the manufacturer through Alibaba. It was £700.00 including shipping and taxes!

There is still some fiddling to do but it’s on and it latches 👍 - a surprisingly good fit too.

The stock one is roughly the weight of a boulder and the CF one is more of a pebble. But seriously, I’ve no idea what either weigh as I don’t own any scales! But the CF one feels, quite obviously, lighter than the stock steel one. Due to the sudden availability of my car buddy Dave, the rapid fitting of the new hood has meant I haven’t had the opportunity to borrow scales. I would say the CF one is roughly half the weight of the steel one. It would be lighter still if it was 100% CF but I suspect some GF is also involved. I’ll write a full report on the plus and negative points once I’ve fiddled with it a bit.

Yours is probably the only colour that it looks ok on, not my style and would definitely look awful on my blue. Weight saving is weight saving though so worth it

In time I might paint it but, for now at least, I’ll live with it. I think it would also work well on a black car (perhaps better even).
