Well I guess it could mean ‘You’re Nobody Without a N’ - that makes a lot more sense in the context of this forum, so should we say that?

My i20N

I was at a track thing the other day and someone asked me why I didn’t buy an i30N. Well I could have done but I never even considered one seriously. The only other car I did seriously consider was the Toyota GR Yaris (track pack). As for the i30N, I wanted a small, light weight car - I wanted a manual gearbox and buttons for air-con etc. I don’t like the seats in the i30N and I find the styling is overly conservative. The whole platform is clearly a previous generation compared to the i20N. I also realise that cars just haemorrhage money and the more you spend the more they lose and the more expensive they are the more the modifications cost, and I just didn’t see enough value in spending another £10K.

I considered a GR Yaris but was put off by the small fuel range and small boot. It is my only car so needs to be a bit practical.
i30N is one size too big for me. No point getting a bigger car for no reason.
Oh, and I totally agree with the new meaning for Mark’s forum name.

I wonder how our friend is getting on with his Bridgestone tyres. I will have to chase him up to find out.
I haven’t even seen my car for nearly 3 months. I have been away for the winter in the sunshine.
The car is in the garage at home with a charger attached to the battery.
Looking forward to getting home soon and having a drive.

We have been on various beaches in the south of Thailand on the east and West Coast.
For us it is really a bit too hot but better than being too cold.
Thailand is one of very few places where it is cheap enough to go on a really long winter break.
The people are wonderful and it is a great place for Brits because everything works in the English language here

Im also in Thailand absolutely love it here,people food entertainment cost of living all fantastic,yes you’re correct it’s going into hot hot season now but the sea breeze does help cool things down slightly.
iI had a sneaky feeling you may have been in Thailand as you said it’s guaranteed winter sunshine.

I feel bad that we have hijacked Mark’s page to talk about our holidays but as we are here……
Just this morning had our flight home cancelled by Qatar.
Luckily, we were expecting it and we already had a flight booked with Air China.
It has been a bit annoying and has probably taken about 15 hours of our time trying to find flights home but we got there in the end.
Hope you are doing okay and you can get home when you want to.
Crazy times.
We go on holiday a lot and I have never known anything like this in my lifetime.
We even got home at the start of Covid by the skin of our teeth

After watching it my first thoughts are thus:
My car is fitted with an adjustable rear sway bar and it’s set to the most conservative. If this was adjusted it would make the rear rotate more easily and that might be more to Sam’s liking. I could also adjust the throttle response to something less ‘twitchy’ and Sam might prefer that. Finally, it will rev up to 7K and produces power right to that redline - perhaps a touch more could be squeezed out if a gear lower were selected…. but I’m no racing driver (unlike Sam) and I’m sure Sam knows better than I do.

.This was done immediately after the Paragon Cars report and he did use quite a lot of fuel doing it - hence my car was a bit low on petrol…
I’ve read a few of the YouTube comments and there is an STI fan saying how it was ‘only’ a second slower than my car. Well, what he doesn’t mention is that the track is ridiculously short and so a second is a huge amount of time 
Also, whilst it’s not easy to see as the leader table is only flashed up quickly at the end, my car is significantly higher up that board than the i30N they have tested.

As someone who wont be aiming for 300hp, it was good to hear that he thought it doesn't need so much to be good by his standards.
Hearing that brakes and suspension/swaybar will do a lot to make it great is excellent, as i was looking to improve brakes/tires first and was wondering about swaybar & coilovers, etc before getting into power mods. The engine mods on my list right now are airbox for the sound, and later on downpipe with sports cat, de-res, tune etc.
Its a tossup whether i'd look at downpipe, etc before coilovers (i can probably live with oem suspension for a while). I feel like when i look at a tune its going to mean wanting to re-tune when things change, so wasnt sure if i should look at a tune before any other power mods or if that will just be spending that money twice+ and might save some to get early power mods done and tune once and leave it alone from there,

My suspension is (almost) completely stock - a couple of bushings have been changed.
If you are intending to get the ECU tuned you should get any supporting mods first so they can be accounted for.
it may feel overpowered on that track but bear in mind that said track is extremely short and more than 50% very tight corner.

I didn't say it in my youtube comment, because I was only interested in the message to you and who am I to tell Sam what to do..... But
.... I felt if he used more trail braking or some left foot braking to get the rear to help a bit more then he would have found the rotation he was seeking. Just my opinion but I have seen that play out with our car. As you said, a bit of fine tuning of suspension and mapping to suit that track and he would find some big time gains.
STI fans can be so precious because STI's aren't the car they once were, it's sad but they need to face facts. I'll be the same in 2 generations of i20Ns if they're still around I think.
Just watched the video,very interesting I thought it would be much quicker around a tight track than it was,almost identical time as the old pre facelift i30n which did it’s time on a damp track.
I don’t consider the i30n a quick car at all, always thought it was underpowered and to heavy.
Think it showed by just throwing more power into a small front drive car that the power just corrupts the front end and any real gains are just spun away.
Like to see a stock 120n going around,got a feeling it would be very close if not quicker.
