Wheels Lightweight/Track Summer Wheels & Tires

But the non-Performance N has another suspension as the level is appx. 10mm higher in front and back. Other suspension - other alignment.

Where is the source where you got that information? No one will adjust anything when changing to the 18" winter wheels. You need adjustment when you change the suspension. Nothing to adjust by changing to 18" or even 20".

Read it here and scroll down a bit

Check those geometry differences between the 18" and 19" comparison chart.

Again, the differences in setup is because of the different suspension (see ride hight) not caused by rim size.

So two completely different opinions going on here.
Some day you do and some day you don't.

Ahh! Gotcha. I see what you mean, now.
Why would they bother making two ride height variants between the models?

I don't know why, but they did. I think in their eyes the Performance should come a bit lower than the "normal" one. Fact is, I know a white non-performance here in town and you can see clearly the difference in ride hight compared to mine. That means different springs and different dampers (non adaptive), which cause different suspension alignments.

I'm very happy with Goodyear supersport in 235/40r18 on Motec ultralight wheels, I haven't tried PS4 on the i30n but did on my Scirocco and I would say the Supersports are substantially better. The grip levels of the Supersports on 18 inch wheels isn't significantly different to the PS4s on 19s with some definite advantages but that is likely to be due to loss of unsprung weight. I'd say the Supersports are noisier than the PS4s though.
@Brendan now some time has passed, could you please tell us if you would buy the SuperSports again? I am looking for an overal good tire. ~2 times a year a trackday / some roadtrips and overal spirited driving + commuting every day.
I am a bit worried about the noise they make, I will go from 19" Pzero's to 18" SuperSports.
However the lower weight might be a good compensation for the extra noise.

Please advice ;)

As I have the motec ultralight in 18 with the supersports and original wheels with ps4s it is difficult to do a direct comparison but I'm very happy with the supersports.

225 or 235/40 R18? If 235 you can get the PS4S from Germany: KLICK
I was sure to purchase the Goodyears till the PS4S appeared in 18” in Germany. Couldn’t resist, the choice then was clear.

Thanks mate!
I can buy the PS4S for the same price here in Belgium.

Current prices mounted+balanced:
235/40-18 XL Eagle F1 Asymetric 5 = 600€
235/40-18 XL Eagle F1 SuperSport = 608€
235/40-18 XL Pilot Sport 4 = 640€
235/40-18 XL Pilot Sport 4S = 640€

Slight preference for F1 Supersport.

Edit: I have been looking to buy 18x7.5 rims, would I be better with a 225 tire? Any experience with 225 tires? made a topic about it https://n-cars.net/forums/threads/225-tire-width.4689/

When your choice is 7,5x18 the 225/40 would be the better fitting tire. I don‘t expect much differences between 225 and 235/40 R18. The Goodyear Supersports come in both sizes as the PS4S only in 235/40.

Interesting info... I really rate the Vorti's didn't realise how heavy they were. They transformed my Boxster S when i fitted them all round.

Right, I'll probably get told to read through the forum to which I already have and have found an opinion from almost every forum member, some contradicting each other lol...

But I'm looking at swapping to 18" Wheels with some Michelin Pilot Super Sports and I'm not overly clued up on all things wheel and tyre based so need a bit of help etc, but reason for change is -

a) I'm Hoping that there will be a little bit more padding than with 19" wheels to soften up the ride a bit.
b) Road conditions in Glasgow have been pretty bad as of late, and I've just burst a P Zero so a little bit more confidence and safety that I wont burst a tyre if I so happen to go through any risky potholes.
c) Reduction in un-sprung weight for some fast road driving and maybe a track day down the line, but mostly road use.
d) P Zero's are great in the warm dry days, but Scotland sees very little - So PS4's are obvious choice to me.

So given all this, Could anyone help/comment on what they would suggest from experience the best dimensions for wheel and tyre to go along with that would fit for daily driving in mostly wet and cold conditions with some fast road driving on the good days please?

Thank you:)

If you plan on going for a track day once in a while rather go for Michelin PS4S i would say, and if you want a bit more meat on the sidewall go for 235/40/18, for that you will need a rim that is 18x8 prefferably, but also 18x8.5 can be ok i think.1582758439616.png
