I am currently using as winter set, Proline 8J18ET40 with 235/40/18 clearance is 'ok' ... except if you go for lowering springs
For OEM wheels you may go for 10mm spacers to be safe ... away from the inner wheel arch

When you say ‘ok’. How is it over bumps and full lock. Also does it feel any different to stock?Hi ...

Sorry I was actually replying about something different. I’ve seen some wheel that I like that are 8.5”x18”. And really wasn’t sure if they’d fit. But I think this confirms that they will. Thank you.Based on my experience with 235/40/18 there is no issue on full lock or bumps. Change on ET (fromr 53 to 45 for example) will make the steering wheel slightly heavier. Change the tire width you increase the radius (taking in account that you keep the same profile, 40) so the basic rule is 'slower acceleration - higher top speed' but when we discuss for 215 to 225 this is so tiny that almost impossible to notice
Handling wise, the more rubber the better grip on dry, but when raining on summer tires ... it gets challenging![]()

Do you have any photos of your car with Proline rims on it? Thinking about those in black version for white car and would be great to see them on, even on pics.8,5J18 are very wide for the car, I would say max is 8Jx18 ...

Found it, thanks. What do you think of those rims for track use? I mean exactly 7.5x18 ET45. Might not be the lightest but still an adventage over OEM and can get them in good price. Just wondering if they won't decrease handling overall with the change from ET53 to ET45.Yes, check at i20N Polar White threat
So from I've gathered 225/40R/18 is definately fine for the car, even if you go with 8x18 rims. But my question really is what about going for a 17" rims. Am looking for a winter set, which really would benefit from the extra profile. I see the spare tire is 17" for this car, but motivation to go smaller rim size for bigger profile is rare as this really is a performance car and that will impact it. Just in my experience that all goes away when you are on ice.
I anyways need to go away from 215/40R/18 size because there are 0 extreme winter tyres in that size.
That will be interesting to read your thoughts once you try this out and see how it works on road/track. I was also thinking of 17" in the beginning but since I am not much experienced in this area I decided to go for something rather close to OEM. Also I think way easier to get some performance tires for 18".Personally, to improove all parameters (speed, comfort, grip, economy etc), i would go with 215/45/17 wheels with a really performance tire, like michelin pilot cup 2 connect. For Greece - Athens where i live we have weather with relatively high temps (above 15) and few days with bad weather, i strongly believe the above combo would increase, comfort, speed as the new tire size compensates for shorter dif, economy as the compo rims and tires weight less etc. When i will get the car i will try this combo and i will report back to the forum as i have a performance spare wheel set for my honda civic 2019(2forze zf1 8x17 7.6 kgs each) which fits perfectly the i20n. The wheels made great difference to my civic 2019 in comparison with the stock ones, i cant wait to try them to my i20n. https://www.facebook.com/2forgewheels/
