This was super useful!
Gives you peace of mind when you have to use quite a bit of force to remove trim pieces and you're sure it's just clips there and you haven't missed any bolts.
For 2019 Fastback the head unit top cover is slightly different, you don't need to push it to one side, it just lifts up.

this is super thanks.
has anyone upgraded the front woofer and tweeter using an aftermarket crossover? How did you get the tweeter connection to the crossover in the door?

some ideas would be greatly appreciated

Danny

I have read through all of this, super useful!

I am looking at using Audison apk165 for the front and Audison coax in the rear. Does changing the speakers alone make a dramatic difference to the bass and clarity or is the head Unit/amp very limiting? I don’t want perfection just a big improvement on stock

Thanks

@PaulD , did you end up doing the Hertz tweeters as well?

I was considering getting Hertz's too, but wanted too see what your experience was like fitting the Hertz components in the front + rerouting the cabling from the tweeter to the woofer, and or if just fitting the component woofer was good enough (keeping stock tweeter).

Ended up ordering
Hertz DSK 160.3 (components) for fronts
Hertz DCX 160.3 (coax 2 way) for rears

I took a bit of time to decide on rears because i was worried about depth. But based on PaulD selecting Alpine Spc170 depth being 60.2mm from tech manual (he estimated 56mm), the DCX 160.3 is 56.5mm, so it should be fine.

what did you pay and were did you order would you let me know how you get on as its some thing im interested in doing jsut speakrs 1st and them maybe amp if required

I have just upgraded the front door speakers and tweeters to Audison Prima ones. Sound is definitely better - I think the main issue is how badly the head unit is EQ’d i have to have the treble on -7 and mid on -6 to make it sound ok but it is an improvement for sure. I am concerned that an amp will just exaggerate the EQ issue but think i will try it. Audison coaxials for the back speakers first though :)

Since I installed my pioneer amp I've put all the equaliser settings back to neutral. The sound is so much better than stock. I had already installed a sub and rear speakers but the amp made the biggest improvement by far.

I'll report some feedback when I install in a week or two.

I paid roughly 300AUD from Aus retailer, so about 165GBP.

thanks for the quick reply looking forward to hearing how you get on

So got the four doors done with the hertz speakers

A few things to note
- if you want to reuse the oem speaker housing, you will need to dremel/cut out the rear, which basically means destroying the oem speaker. I didnt really understand that from the instructions before

- if you want to remove the tweeter cover its much easier to use an L shaped pick tool and lever it out. I couldnt imagine using a heavier gauge panel tool as it would be hard to fit between the cover and dash. So i didnt find it much of an issue compared to others

Observation
- Rear speaker upgrade was definitely worth it. The Hertz coax was much smoother in the high end and complimented the oem fronts. Sounded like an upgrade.

- Front speaker upgrade (hertz component woofer only without crossover + tweeter ) was playing full range and interfered with the oem tweeters. Was a little more punchy in the mid lows but too focused on mid highs. I ended up unplugging the oem tweeters to see what happens and it sounded a bit better balanced overall. The reason i havent installed the hertz crossover(capacitor cable only) and tweeter is that its going to be a lot off work i think to run the cable and fit the tweeter to the existing dash location. So i have a decision to make - either stuff around for a day and try to run the cable through the dash and door rubber grommet, or install flush onto the door /side mirror panel

Just to add, my expectations would be that after installing the hertz tweeter and crossover, it would clear up the frequency range. It would hopefully be a more clear cut upgrade than what it is now ( a slight upgrade to fronts)

Actually, a bit of help if you guys are able to:

Do I actually need to reroute my Hertz tweeters from dash, to the woofers in the door via crossover cable(with the cap)? or can I just reuse the existing OEM tweeter cable?

The reason I ask is that I stumbled across this diagram below... which says the front woofer and tweeters run in parallel.

Any help would be great!

The original tweeters have a crossover built in, if your new ones do the same then you should be able to connect them to the existing wiring.

Ok job complete.

thanks to jajodu for the advice. I installed tweeters using existing tweeter cabling and it worked.

i reused the oem tweeter brackets so that interior was not modified in any way. The hertz tweeter are a little tall so i had to remove the hertz tweeter speaker cover so that it did not touch the interior plastic cover

Hertz DSK 160.3 (components) for fronts
- definitely strong for upper mids and highs and more definition of low end musicality. If you like clarity /vocals / synth / strings then this speaker is for you. Its not harsh /unballanced like the oem. I did wish it was stronger in the mid lows to capture better body of drums/toms , not necessarily subwoofer frequency but in the mid - low region. Solid 7.5 /10

Hertz DCX 160.3 (coax 2 way) for rears
- solid upgrade. Way better balanced than oem.
7.5/10

Overall happy with the upgrade and selection. Maybe you could consider a more low end orientated speaker for fronts, if you are prioritising bass response.
