First oil change

Most dealers are not doing an oil change at the first 1000kms service/ inspection unless you ask for it, as it’s not a requirement by Hyundai. After that as per log book.

Yes same, you can request and pay the additional cost. Or just do it yourself, as I did. I personally think it should have been changed at the first service. But they tell me technology has come along way in engines.

They almost managed to talk me out of it at 1500km first service but i ended up insisting on it and they did it. Only $81 so i thought that was a cheap and wise investment in longevity and peace of mind. Just do it ;)

Wow, Peter warren quoted me $275 for the oil change! Decided to go against it as per logbook :/

Whoa, that's bit stiff! How can they justify that?! I was lucky in that they only charged me for consumables, in which case they've added almost $200 for labour there - what, to stand and watch the oil drain out, screw on a filter and pour in some fresh stuff? Absurd...

Time to find a new dealer.... that is a total rip off.

At my first service I asked about changing the oil. Not required according to the service guy. So I asked to buy a filter. What for? he enquired... To do an oil change when I get the car home I replied. Why? Because you can never change the oil and filters too often. When I picked up the car later in the day, they had changed the oil (using the oil on my passenger seat), their filter, and after a small haggle, I just paid for the filter, as I actually had NOT asked them to change my oil.

I also use the same high quality oil and genuine filters to do a "mid-way" oil change myself at the half way point between services. So at 5500 kms, I dropped the oil, replaced the filter and oil, so my car has fresh oil and filter every 5000 or so kilometres, without the super expensive dealer charges.

I also don't mind replacing the oil just before or just after a track day, depending on how old the oil is.
Just to be sure....

I had my 1500km oil and filter changed for $110 last Friday and I thought that was reasonable - No labour charge just consumables.
About to have my oil and filter changed at 1500km also. What oil was used? I have been told Hyundai (AUS) have a partnership will Caltex currently. Our 2011 Hyundai was a Shell car.
Hyundai seem like Elizabeth Taylor and marry up with anyone they feel like at the time.
I am interested in what was used in your car though.

What brand and grade of oil did they use in your car @GazmaN ? I am interested if the different states / territories use different oil or if Hyundai is playing from the same playbook Australia wide. :)

Mobil Super 3000 XE 5W30 mate. They used to put Shell in my previous i30 diesel wagon up until last year though. Sounds like they are not fussy when it comes to lube and will bed anyone as you suggest. Interesting...

Do you think they are using a 5W30 oil because of the warmer temps in the territory?
My owners manual say Hyundai recommends Shell Helix motor oils. ACEA C2 or above 0W-30 spec.
Not what my dealer told me. They are saying Caltex oils but are saying the same spec.

Because of higher temps was my assumption as I noticed the same thing in the owners manual. And I thought 0W was a bit on the thin side from the get-go, not that I really know a hell of a lot about lube tech.

I was told it was a 0w-30 but unsure of brand etc :) I read somewhere they come 5w-30 from factory so I am unsure why they went with 0w-30 but hey it's the dealership I bought the vehicle from, if something happens it's on them
