Don't forget that with a new car you are also bedding in the brakes and clutch, wearing in the gears, etc. It's not just about the engine.

Exactly.
Both are correct.o_O The engine has had the rigorous run in at production testing as KROOK3R states, however it's not hooked up to gear box, drive train clutch, etc. all of which lubricated moving parts need a short run in process and put a little additional stress on the engine to boot.

OK, I've ordered some oil based on what's recommended in the manual (Shell Helix Ultra ECT C2/C3 0W-30). Unfortunately the filter part number is not in the manual, so I will have to take a look under the bonnet to find out what it is.

do you find some part number for the oil filter? I am at 600 KM after a few days, and want to change the oil myself on +-1000 KM after the break in period.

I didn't get around to doing it in the end. I figured I'll leave most mechanical work to the dealer for the sake of the warrantee. I just don't want to give them any cause for excuse when my engine blows up on the track. ;)

It looks like the recommended oil is castrol 0W-30.

Anyone going to use a different brand?

I really wouldn’t! If the engine shits it’s self laboratories can tell what make and spec of oil you have used and if it’s not as it should be then they can refuse warranty!

I don't think that anyone would really bother. But I used the Castrol one listed in the manual, the price is reasonable and probalby much the same as the other brands.

My manual (UK) says "Hyundai recommends Shell Helix Motor oils" (page 7-11), as does the electronic manual (page 7-21). That has to be an acceptable alternative?

If the parameters are right, and you're not using SumChinesium Oil, why would you expect any problems with the engine/warranty void?

Polish manual recommends Shell Helix Ultra with PurePlus technology whatever that is, and describes the quality as ACEA C2 or higher, 0W-30. Just like the English manual pinned on the forum (quality rating, not oil make)
