This one is ready to be applied in January or February, depending on when my detailer has time.

Did my first resin and sealer job today. Used AutoGlym products for the first time. From the Shampoo & Conditioner, the Glass Cleaner, Plastic & Rubber cleaner, Wheel Cleaner and the Resin & Gloss Protection. Got them on the Black Friday offer last month. I’ve been meaning to do a clean for weeks but the weather has been terrible in South West Wales.

Taken about 6 hours to fully clean the car inside and out. 2 days of zero rain & winds so an ideal window to get the car sealed for the wetter, colder and muddy months ahead.

My arms, legs and back are killing me. Definitely did a good job haha.

Taking it to Hyundai Swansea tomorrow for its first service. While I know they’ll clean it, I prefer I do the job instead with proper cleaning stuff and detail.
Car looks great - a truly clean MG is a beautiful thing.:)

Bit of a rainy and misty morning today. Coating seems to be working.

Will be getting my car back soon complete with Feynlabs self heal ceramic coating and xpel ppf on the entire front end. Hopefully can say good bye to hand washing and just be able to use pressure washer then blower on it!

Got to say I’m throughly impressed with that AutoGlym Extra Gloss Protection on the alloys. Took a 20 minute drive down the single lane backroads around me that the farmers always use. Full of muck, dusty roads with muddy puddles and dirt everywhere. I thought to myself what a waste of time cleaning the wheels...

Nothing. Just as shiny as before. I’ve not touched them after the drive. This is the same case across all four wheels. Unbelievable that nothing stuck to them. Honestly you should have seen how dirty the road was!

Even the car and side skirts are mostly still spotless.

Sooooo since this is my first new car, I have decided to take the plunge for proper cleaning/polishing.

Previous experience has led to to f*** some panels up.

I have literally spent 3 hours in work today reading all this thread and looking at videos, I am more lost than ever so I would like to hear from the guys here that I see have got great results.

I understand the steps as far as 1 Foam, 2 Rinse, 3 Shampoo (2 buckets with Mitt), 4 Towel dry
Where I am lost is clay bars, ceramic coating, wax, polish, sealent.
Can I use buffer with wax? which heads do you use for the rotary and at what stages? I know the pattern to move the rotary.
It seems sealant would be the last thing I would do?

I get there are preferences but would something along the lines of below sound reasonable

Every week or so do all steps as far as shampoo.

Once a month apply Quick detailer after drying

Every 3 months do a wax/sealent

Then for winter do a ceramic coat.

I'm just on the body panels, I will stick with Rawx05 method for wheels as above as it looks great and straightforward.

Appreciate the assistance in advance and thanks for the product recommendations. My amazon basket is full and ready to go

For the wheels I use Simoniz Ultracare Alloy Wheel Cleaner or AutoGlym Clean Wheels (also recently started using AutoGlym Magma). Let them sit for 5 minutes then use a power washer to get rid of it all (you could agitate it with a wheel brush but I find a power washer does a good enough job). While still wet, spray AutoGlym Instant Tyre Dressing to the outer tyre walls to give it a nice shine (I like this stuff as it works on tyres that are wet or dry but make sure they are clean first). Dry the alloys with a decent cloth (I like using e-Cloth’s) and then apply AutoGlym Extra Gloss Protection to seal the clean alloys (use a polishing cloth). Wait 30 minutes and then buffer with another polishing e-cloth.

Unfortunately you cannot use hydrophobic sealants like AutoGlym or Simoniz Wheel Protector because the stock 19” wheels have a lot of glossy black. If you spray it on, it’ll look cloudy once set and you’ll have to clean it off again. The Extra Gloss Protection (or similar wax type of products) keep it clean mostly until the next power wash, but dust build up will stick to them over the weeks.

@JP_Irl what colour did you go for.

I ask as this will change how well it hides or shows swirls, which can help with knowing if you need or want to polish in the first place.

Mine’s Clean Slate and pretty sure it’s gonna hide swirls for a good while.
Where as black / grey whole new game showing imperfections easily.

Ok so many questions lets see what we can do, so 1st are you keeping your clean like me which would mean it get washed once a week dirty or not or you wash 1 per month when cant read the number plate , or maybe in the middle once every 10-14 days when life permits?

Ceramic coat IMO is not the miracle some people think or believe, they do not stop stone chips (as some of my customers think) they do not stop you car getting dirty.
They do add amazing gloss and make the very easy to keep clean and offer UV paint protection in most and of course that trade mark water beading.

Do you have nay experience with a rotary and cars as that could end in tears?

A quick detailer is a good idea to use every wash as drying aid, so when your done the final rinse with the hose or power wash, spray the QD on the wet panel when you use your drying towel you find the area bone dry as the water will react with QD

The wax, sealant debate rage on to this day just use what you got, one week ill out a sealant on the week after ill wax on top then keep swapping, twice a year ill strip the paint back to bare clear coat and start again.

Clay bars should only be used when need not part of maintenance,Bilt Hamber clay soft used on new car should see you done for 18 months or more depending on your environment

Absolute gent and finally some clarity for me me, appreciate it.

To answer, if time allows I usually get a quick wash in once a week and then usually a polish (at least over the summer) once per month.
After extensive reading I do understand the limits of a ceramic coating and think I'm definitely going to go with one on the car as benefits seem well worth it, how long does a coating last, I have seen 2-3 years but this seems like alot to me.

With rotary I have both bad and good experience (took me a while to figure out that it wasn't all about pressure and let the pad do the work and not my shoulder).

Again thanks for all the advise from everyone, great tread with great tips.

Rotary can very efficient in paint correction however you can burn the paint very easy and also the edges for example like where the wing meets the bonnet. I use a DA 90% of time as they pretty safe and with a modern DA results are amazing
Durability of ceramics can be argued and disguised in tests do for my experience the good one in the should go 6 months min in our climate

You're a legend bud thanks, treated myself to a DA from your list so I can keep the heart palpitations in check.

So far I've pretty much stuck to your list, Microfiber madness mitt, Cquartz ceramic, Bill hamber foam, Woolly mammoth towel, auto finese tyre shine, Carchem shampoo, think I have some autoglym polish leftover at home but will take something from the list when that is gone, as for Pads after some research I went for hex logic ones (seemed to have decent reviews) and as the paint is new will only be using a red finishing one until I see how this DA machine works out.
