Brakes Brake Upgrade Discussion (Discs / Pads / ... )

What temperature has been reached with this setup (color marking on DBA) after track-days?
I got info from others that temp goes over 630°C (all marks changed color) on brake demanding track, but they did not have additional cooling and I do not remember pads they use.
On my discs the 630 degree mark is still red. The others changed their color. And Spreewaldring is really demanding on the brakes with almost no straight for cooling.

As I wrote, I’m really pleased with my setup.

The Cooling doesn’t need to be in the papers from what I’ve read. I’ll see by end of this year when next TÜV is due.

I had 2 stints of 15 minutes on Spreewaldring, 15 minutes with 6 laps at GP Nürburgring and 4 laps on Nordschleife.
The brakes never faded, felt awkward or anything like that. The same pedal feel the whole time.

I’ve heard from heat cracks only with Zimmermann discs.
Thanks for the info. Personally I'm unsure how any discs can have significantly more heat dissipation given they're same mass, heat stress is heat stress, as long as it isn't 2 part floating it probably will crack depending on use. Keep in mind I did 4 x 30 minutes Slovakia ring and 1 track day of 18 Nordschleife laps and the stock discs were fine, got hairline cracks after the 2nd Nordschleife day, and after 3rd one they got dangerous. :) can't tell if pads matter for this, did Slovakia on stock pads, they were fine and didn't have fade just squishy as usual and worn out like crazy. Upgraded to rsl29 after that and loved them but by the time they were halfway gone the discs were garbage...
It would probably make sense for me to just get the cooling (maybe the lines for good measure), and only when the new discs die get the dba ones. Currently on nexd pads but they feeel just like stock, at least they were cheaper... I was recommended hawk pads with the Dbas actually.

That was a lot of heat stress then with all those laps.
I guess everything plays it's own role and a lot of factors are involved.
But for now, I'm happy. Sadly the next laps at Nordschleife are next year.

Regarding heat dissipation I'd say, that at least the DBAs have a lot more material on the between the surfaces where there air goes thru. So more heat can be stored and there is more surface area for the air to remove heat. And with the cooling the air gets forced thru there

My2cents:
Now I have DBA T3 4000 slotted disks with Pagid Street+ pads incl. braided brake lines and Speedengineering brake cooling.
The brakes are super reliable and capable on Spreewaldring and even on Nürburgring GP as well as Nordschleife.
No warping or anything like that. For me it's the perfect brake setup for Trackday and daily driving.
Where die you get the dba discs with ABE/EBE? I'm looking for a while and could not find a dealer.

I guessed you have a FL model. There only the Zimmermann discs are legal to drive. A friend of mine mounted them yesterday (incl. Pagid pads & Speedengineering brake cooling) and we're curious how they will behave on track.
He talked to the Speedengineering guys and the said, the reputation of Zimmermann is getting better.

Hi, did you do the installation of the Speedengineering cooling kit? It looks like one needs to remove the factory backplate which is completely circular which probably involves undoing maybe suspension or wheel bearing or... something? Or maybe it can be cut, but something defo will need to be loosened to remove it and install the speedengineering kit. Would be nice to know how to prepare for that. Otherwise should be fairly straightforward...
Just replaced the rear disks and pads and got a bit worried of how can that be done when I do the fronts.

The install is quite easy. It took me like 20 minutes for the second side.
You have to remove the brake caliper and the brake rotor. Behind the rotor are three screws to remove the stock heat shield. This is then replaced with the one from SpeedEngineering.
It’s pretty straight forward.
I hope this helps a bit

Hah, I was worried I may to remove hub bearing and/or knuckle and that looked super intimidating but am much more hopeful now, thanks. Sometimes it feels these Hyundai manuals could be a little more detailed especially in the photos, for example the photos don't always exactly match the components. :)
Have 5 hours booked in DIY garage for Saturday for this (plus changing pads) so crossing fingers. Thanks for the clarification.

Now that I’ve installed 3 brake cooling sets, I’d only need one hour 😆
The most fiddling around was with the length of the tube. But the rest is straight forward when you see it.

Have fun.
