Brakes Brake Upgrade Discussion (Discs / Pads / ... )

Looking to replace my brake fluid with something better. The stock one doesn't hold up too well with spirited driving :D

Which fluid do you guys recommend for 90% city driving and 10% mountain trashing. No track use. Looking for something that holds up better at high temps, but is stil suitable for everyday use. It would be great if it can go 20-30k km between changes.
I'm running stock discs and Brembo pads (might change to ceramic pads soon).

I'll be getting braided lines along with the new fluid.

I recently switched to HEL Performance braided brake lines and went with Motul RBF 600. Very glad with the choice and supposedly best for street use. We also bleed the clutch and it improved the clutch feel aswell. Definitelly better than the regular DOT4 dealer put in at 30kkm service XD

Decided to update discs and pads all round. Currently with the stock discs and "normal" Brembo pads. The setup is great for normal driving with the occasional mountain drive, but doesn't hold up well enough if you do track/track-style driving. Already changed brake lines with braided ones and switched the stock Shell brake fluid to Motul RBF660.

Did a lot of searching for replacements. The options for the N are quite limited, at least here in Europe.
In the end I was able to find front discs from EBC (both dimple drilled and slotted). Got the last ones in stock in Europe. Unfortunately, no rear discs in stock so I had to get normal Brembo discs.
For pads I went with EBC yellow stuff all round. From what I've read, they are the most suitable for my style of driving.

All should arrive in 2-3 weeks from Poland. I'll report how it holds up as soon as I've tested them out, since I think it's great value as a package. All comes in at under 700 Euro with delivery (2x EBC GD Sport rotors, 2x Brembo rear rotors, 4x EBC Yellow Stuff pads).

Update on my braking improvements. All is fully installed and in the process of bedding in. Info on everything is in the previous post.

Here are some pictures.

Front brakes with the wheels installed (the black coating starting to wear off where the pads are. It’s supposed to do that)

The rotors were a pain in the ass to remove because the factory didn’t grease properly and everything was rusted. (90mins per rotor):

Here they are properly greased:

Is that Copaslip you used on the hub face? That's the only place I use it, between the disk and hub and the hub and wheel centre. I use Mintex ceratec on the pad ears.

Nope. My mechanic has his own mixture that he uses. I'll ask him about Copaslip. Haven't heard about it before to be honest.

How do they perform compared to original?
Still bedding in so I haven’t done any hard breaking yet. What I can say so far is:

- No issues with initial “cold bite”. Stops just fine when brakes are still cold.
- Completely quiet, even while bedding in. No noise at all. *UPDATE* Occasional noise after bedding in. Nothing excessive.
- The pads generate more dust than OEM pads, but I expect that to subside after a couple hundred km. *UPDATE* Lots of brake dust. Much more than OEM pads.
- The bedding in procedures are simple and easy to follow (pic below)

hi guys
Do some of you have brake pads to use both on the track and on the street and that do not make noise?

I personally don't like the idea of greasing the hub. The OEM discs have M8 thread in the discs wich you should use to loosen the disc.
That way no excessive force or caveman techniques are required.

  • friction is necessary between the hub and disc to ensure the disc doesn't start to move freely from the hub, grease doesn't help in that case.
  • What happens if the grease gets hot enough and starts leaking on to the disc itself?
  • What happens if you use a high pressure washer without centercaps? grease will be blown out.
My advise is just clean the hubs with a wire wheel/brush or Roloc disc to ensure a flat mounting surface and call it a day.
