Brakes Brake Upgrade Discussion (Discs / Pads / ... )

For the brake gurus here and the more experienced. Would DBA 4000 T3 with Pagid Street+ make sense? Soon I will need to change disks/pads and thinking of upgrading a bit. Cheeeers :)

Hello guys!

Currently deciding between DBA Xtreme (orange ones), DS2500 and EBC BlueStuff. Any thoughts on this?
Swapping because YellowStuff are very bad and leave deposits on my disc that led to vibration in the steering wheel (only at high temps).

P.S. I am not using the car as a daily driver but I mind the extreme noise. That's why I am not looking for something more track-focused as I am going there 3 times a year.

Thanks!

bluestuff I have no experience with
dba extreme works well, but is nowhere as extreme as its name suggets. Good bite, but not really temperature resistant. Falls off a cliff when too hot.
DS2500 nice allrounder, less bite than the dba, but has a nice bite-curve when hot.

Thanks for the reply!
So for my application you recommend ds2500 more. Do they make any noise in normal city driving? Thanks!

I wanted to get a couple sets of r90 approved rsl29 (front especially) just to have a backup, but they're not available anywhere anymore. I wish I ordered like 4 sets when I bought the first one. Even the 'normal' rsl29 doesn't seem to exist on Pagid site anymore in the required shape (even tho I'm not sure how much it would cost to get them approved w/ individual TÜV if i wanted to make sure i'm legal?).
What do you guys use for track currently, or do you have a source? Mine are still ok but was wondering to keep a set, I'm super happy that this seem to be discontinued. I understand car is not sold in Europe anymore but damn, parts already drying up is sad.

Using something more aggressive is nice but probably not suitable as I use the car as a daily, it needs to work and also not eat the disks too bad when cold. Using road pads is very meh especially if I go to a faster track.
I also don't want to change brake pads every time I go for a track, not sure I can change them myself on the side of the road, so looking for a good solution...

What discs would survive rsl29 brake pads? What do you guys recommend?
Thanks

I use at-rs.de

Pagid is revamping their full lineup, including the RSL1, RSL2 and RSL29. IIRC those will be re-released as "E" compounds (e.g. RSL1e) in the future. I am unsure if there will be another R90 certification for those updated compounds.

I recommend not running track pads on the road and not run road pads on the track.
Have two sets at hand to not have to worry at all. Depending how much track driving is involved, obv.

if you do hardcore track driving, I would only use DBA 4000 T3 Clubspec Discs. All others, including Tarox have warping issues, what I have seen so far. Problem is the single caliper OEM brake. That one introduces wayyy to much temp to the rotors, if driven hard.

What makes the DBA 4000 T3 Clubspec Discs to have higher tolerance against high temps?
If you asking the Production on how its sustaining the mass amount of heat, its the Coating and different material composition.
But if you asking how to keep them cool, then there break vent systems that feed the Discs fresh air, that alone would improve 30% of cooling for the discs.
Sadly here in Germany they arent allowed, even tho they improve breaking quite a lot.

This guy destroyed his DBA 5000:

Interesting piece of info, thanks.

at-rs was already out in spring, but pretty much by now no one has them, made an order and waited 2 months for no news until I canceled the order. Basically searched the internet for the part number and even ebay was sold out (that was already like 15% more expensive).

Track pads vs street pads is just a label determined by paperwork (there's no actual numbers defined for a standard as far as I can determine), as we can see the rsl29 when labeled it's ok as street pad, when not labeled, allegedly not, so it seems to be a paperwork thing as long as the braking performance is within the standard.
The problem with just changing is I'm not sure I can change it, last time I spent 200 euro for a change (ok it was last minute) but I can't drop 400 for 2 changes for one track day, if I had that I'd drive a 911 not an i30n. They did have some trouble as well with removing some of the pads which I can't imagine solving on the side of the road or in a parking lot.

I know some companies obtain certification by individual TÜV, does anyone know what's the process and cost/ I'm getting wildly different numbers. I wonder if it's something worth considering if one keeps the car for a number of years. I know I should ask them but maybe it's their "trade secret" but someone here already knows. :)

I already have some extra cooling - so it takes longer -, but they still get f.cked up. I don't mind paying more for a disc, if it is actually better, but as it was linked just one comment below by @Jerome92 DBA isn't invincible either. So is it really better - just not invincible -, or just not as many ppl use them as some other discs, so we also see less bad ones.

Interesting, you track yours very often or break really hard?
If so then the best ones I could suggest are the Tarox Break system with they flexible choices of Discs that have various kind of cooling designs.

So I have gotten myself some nice Brembo Prime Discs and Pads.
Can say that they are good in my opinion and experience as former car mechanic.
Could also be the fact that my 5 year old OEM Discs from Factory were holding well.
But as time went on,Technology of Discs and Pads improved.
These are really nice for the Price me and my Cousin did (just 500€)

However as you can tell what 5 years of Breaking and driving does to some of these Original Pads (Left Brembo Prime,Right OEM Hyundai Pads since 2020 that are 5 years old now)

Could be that the feeling of replacing 5 year old breaks now is much more mint as pads got more advanced.
I feel the pads being good from Brembo and could suggest as they are a nice middle balance.
