If it's AWD 350hp+- i am pre ordering. It would be interesting to put some kind of system to disable cylinders for fuel economy while driving in the city. That would be rather nice.

On a 4 cylinder, disabling half would mean driving a Smart, or worse. No thanks. Rather be at the petrol station on my hypothetical 350+ bhp or being on a bus than driving around town in a limp car.

I'm guessing it will be exactly like a Cayman except in price?! Would anyone walk past a £45k (Bog standard) Porsche Cayman to get to a £45k Hyundai?!:D

Biermann pretty much literally stated that awd is unnecessary if not worse than fwd (reg overall driving performance) in the power regions of an i30N and an increase of some hp won’t change that. A 75 hp (which is 28%) increase from one generation to the next is also unlikely.

All sounds sensible doesn’t it. DCT isn’t going away and neither is hybrid/full electric tech.

I would hope to stick with Hyundai in 2021 when I’d be seriously looking at a preorder for a new car, but I’m not loyal to a brand to be honest.

I still want a car that ticks all MY boxes and if that isn’t with Hyundai then that’s just the way it is. It’d be cool if it was though.

Correct. Look at the leading brand/car (I know ‘leading’ is subjective but you know what I mean). The Golf GTI. Very minimal power differences and increases over the years. Even the Focus ST/Megane RS. All usually around the same ball park figure.

IF Hyundai are creating a completely different car then yes, 350bhp or whatever . But as an evolution of the I30N/Velsoter N we all know and love, then I’d say more modest power increases of 20bhp would be all Hyundai would add. All in my opinion but just because WE might be ready for an extra 50bhp, doesn’t mean we’ll get it!!

I remember waiting and waiting....and waiting on an update for the Kia Pro Ceed GT back in 2016/17. I really loved that car but got used to 201bhp/265NM. When they finally announced a follow up, it was the same engine spec and a horrible design. Which led me here of course.....

Regards the next I30n, I imagine (as Crocoman said) they will up the performance to probably just above the current Focus/next gen GTI (and hopefully lighten it a bit) and then add a Auto option like the GTI has.

Bringing in AWD and Auto would need a reasonably big power increase (similar to the Golf R, A35 etc) or the extra weight (its not light to start with) would cripple the performance and make it worthless!

I'm not saying for one minute I wouldn't buy an N that could smoke a Golf R and sound like it does!:D

2021 for the 8 speed auto would be good. My car would be two years old then and a trade in would be feasible.
