Brakes Brake Upgrade Discussion (Discs / Pads / ... )

It's like @Carlos said. If you don't really need it, just go with standard disc and decent pads.
We're using the OEM brake system with OEM and Zimmermann discs and Endless pads + brake cooling. That's fine for a stage 1 tracktool and is sufficient for an enormous amount of driving experience.
You won't stop significantly better with a big brake. The modulation and if you choose the right components the service life will be better. Thats it.

@Bu11eT Yes, I have noticed this too. It is strange that the i30N is allready 5 years old and only now someone is making work of this Megane RS caliper swap... Should be a huge upgrade indeed!

About Vmax, it seems their BBK is only 330mm?? https://www.v-maxx.com/en/products/big-brake-kits/263

@Carlos I agree for 90% of the owners the brakes are more than enough. However when you track the car on a hot day +25°C you will still get brake fade after a few hot laps. (EBC blanks + DS2500 + cooling plates removed).
A multi piston design is just superior in terms of force distribution vs a single piston. This results in a more even heat pattern too = less prone to hot spots and molten brake pads.

I have contacted Fella. They also have a BBK for the i30N. However spare discs cost €1000 shipping not included 🤣 https://www.ebay.com/itm/125055374997

Can you link me to the discs you have mentioned?
Same EBay seller.

Expensive, sure but if you were not happy after just a pad change with the stock rotors and callipers then this would be the direction I would go in. Would maybe consider it after the stock rotors came to the end of their service life but to be honest the stock setup is going to be fine for me with maybe a different pad if for some strange reason I'm not happy with the stock pads.

Peoples driving styles vary considerably, I remember letting a mate drive my Kart, it was a twin engine KT100 with a massive single Wilwood 4 piston calliper and he fried the identical setup I had no problems with. Some people must ride the brake pedal. I'm either on the brakes or I'm on the gas, never both.

I see those are 360mm so will only work with the facelift.

Is it possible to swap facelift calipers on the pre-facelift?

Yes its the face lift version that is hard to find that has the 360mm rotors.

There is almost an endless selection of the smaller aftermarket PFL front rotors available.

Not sure why the FL has been running now for years.

Btw, I got a quote from Fella for 345mm 2 piece rotors. Also a whopping €980 :D
Sure it sounds expensive, then again our tax on ICE cars just went up today on the 1st July and I will be charged an extra $2700 and for that I get absolutely NOTHING because my car didn't turn up in time to get it registered.

Can you give me more information about this Upgrade Kit? I'm looking for the following information:
- Breake disc diameter
- can it also be used on 18" wheels or have I use 19" wheels
- can I make this Kit road legal in Germany
- price
- where can I get one ;) A link would be helpful.

What about over all breaking Performance?

Road legal in Germany if needed (at least the brake itself). But I’m not sure about the pads. I suppose he used Endless ones which are definitely not road legal.

@drehstrom

It fits the 18" ProTrack One. And yes, Endless MX87 Pads. Braking Performance is good, today I'm at Spa Francorchamps with the boys and the brake felt great! Definetly worth if you're driving at the racetrack and you're running a lot of power + many upgrades. Otherwise it is too expensive for this value, but there are also people who just like the optics, so...😁

One question as I browsed their website. I30N Facelift and Kona N are basically identical in mechanical terms - so why are they not listing the same brake kits for both cars? In fact - if you go through the Kona N menu - they have nothing for that car there?

No idea. But tbh I never tried to figure it out because it’s not relevant for me 😉. Just ask them via IG.

Someone here using or used TAROX brake sets ?
I'm interested in those parts from https://www.at-rs.de/shop/ :
DISCS - TAROX F2000 : 2372-F2000 front + 2365-F2000 rear
PADS - TAROX CORSA : SP2372.114 front + SP2365.114 rear
I tried to found something with 345/314 but most of discs from the same manofacturer are 345/305 and drilled/flat.
Only Tarox, EBC and DBA discs can be found in the same size with the same structure (drilled, cut, half drilled) in front and rear.
