Rolling acceleration tests
Under my very long experience in car Rally races, I propose to all of us, to try the following test:
move on a rather flat street with the 3rd speed selected and
starting from 60 km/h get into FULL acceleration up to over 110 km/h
while you see the speed touching/ passing the 80 km/h mark START the timer!!!
while you see the speed passing the 110 km/h mark STOP the timer!!!
Do it some times and take the average time for the 80 to 110 km/h acceleration!!!
This is an excellent performance test for your engine and the real performance of your car in a twisty road! (or in twisty a special stage in a Rally!)
For the i20N, based on its gearbox ratios, this test's rpm range is from ~3700 to 5100!!!
This rpm range is a "real world" rpm range ("real world" is mining conditions and engine's usage during real fast driving)
So:
Do this test with your i20N without activating the program/ tuning box and, then, do the same test having your program/ tuning box activated!
The differences between the average acceleration time 80 to 110 Km/h in the tested cases tell you the thuth about your engine's evolution stage and, mainly, for your car's real fast moving skills.
If you have enough time to spend, you could test the other measurement of equally high importance:
The acceleration test (similarly executed as the previous acceleration test from 80 km/h to 110 km/h in 3th gear) from 100 km/h to 140 km/h in 4th gear (rpm ~3600 to 5050), or, even better, the acceleration test from 110 km/h to 150 km/h in 4th gear (rpm ~3950 to 5400)!!! (of course is difficult to execute these tests in higher speeds...)
Tests like the above described are a lot more related to the real perfomance of a car on the road than a dyno test on a possibly not well calibrated dynamometer.
The best way to evaluate and compare your original engine's performance against your engine's performance after the application of a program/ tuning box is to combine the dyno test (as a measured performance guide) and the rolling acceleration tests on the road!
The standard i20N seems to have a rolling acceleration from 100 to 140 km/h in 5.1 sec in 4th gear!
