Brakes Brake Upgrade Discussion (Discs / Pads / ... )

I've been running some YellowStuff with Godspeed disks, the pads aren't too bad but after a touge session I got them so hot they were smoking and barely had any brake force left at all.

May also need to change my brake fluid to the DOT 5.1 I've got sitting at home.
 
I hope they perform as good as they look 😍
Now I've had the godspeed discs, ds2500 pads, braided lines and RBF660 brake fluid combo for a while, thought I'd post just to say, they're amazing. They'll be getting a run on track in the next few months so can't comment on that yet but during some spirited road driving over the last few months, they've been brilliant, car stops on a dime

Are there any replacement rotors for the FL 30N yet?
I've searched but haven't found anything yet.

Looks like they are slowly coming. For the i30N Performance FL with 360mm rotors:

I don't endorse any of these manufacturers so you should do your own research or ask if they are good.
 
Don't see me needing anything more than the stock brakes.

Any issues and the first swap will be to the Hyundai performance pads.

The brakes on this car are a massive overkill for road use.

Not sure where you are from but in Germany it's almost undersized considering we go 250 km/h and more on the road ;) Especially that they are only 2 piston breaks does not always feel nice.

I've had 1-2 moments where I was like "wtf is going on" when I drove over long stretches without using the breaks on the Autobahn. Not sure if it's the pads or rotors. There was basically no break for the first 2-3 seconds. It wasn't even to cold as it was always in the wet so like 3-4°C.

No offense but I wouldn't be stupid enough to try and drive my i30N at 250kmhr.

I would want to be in a likes of a Porsche GT3 that is designed to drive and brake at those sorts of speeds.

You need to spend about 5 times the money on a car that has a top speed of closer to 300kmhr before you would expect it to perform at 250kmhr.

Why? I've driven 261 GPS speed and it felt perfectly safe and stable. Once my Aero parts are installed it's even going to be more stable.

The i30N is designed for that or else it would not have that top speed. The i30N is a ~8 minute car on the Nürburgring. Believe me if it's allowed to drive 250 in Germany it's engineered to hell and back. We have the strictest laws in the world.

True, but the bigger the rotor the better it will be because of the higher leverage and more surface. That is why to this date drum brakes are so good at least when it comes to stoping power. But yes crap pad = crap fell/distance.

They are not. Anything above 180km/h shows a lack of performance. They are not bad but they are not a MASSIVE overkill as you stated.

On tracks there are just there for my expectations. I would like to have a more feel with 2/4 piston calipers with a more agressive pad.

Also, doing 250 in i30N is a bit loud but not dangerous. For me the brakes are the limiting factor for not going that fast on polish roads. If roads in straight and empty, then why not.
 
I have been above 180kmkr in a 30 year old car where the rotors the i30N are the same diameter as the wheels were on that car !!!

I sure hope that the brakes are a whole lot better on the i30N than that !!!!

The version of i30N out here looks to be speed limited to 270kmhr so 220kmhr should be pretty comfortable. Not to many places in this country you can get to 220kmhr, the public roads are just not good enough, not to mention the open road speed limit is 100kmhr so if you get caught doing 220 you will lose your license and probably lose the car as well.

Our tracks are also pretty small, you are just switching between 3rd and 4th gear all the time and top speed is like 170kmhr at the end of the straights. The stock brakes will have no problems with that either.
 
Like I said, 220 is comfortable any faster and things are happening very quickly.

Probably safer if everyone is going fast but if you are trying to do 220 here and people in the inside lanes are only doing 100 then its going to end badly.

Pretty much only done those sorts of speeds with no other vehicles are in sight.
 
It's because you don't live in Germany or Poland. It's quite easy to do it here.

As for brakes, I drove on a small track with 2 short straights letting you at most hit 150-160km/h if you do it right. When going flat out brakes will start to fail during 3 lap. Even on the second lap you can start noticing worse brake feel.

I have not driven a car with BBK but every says that this kit will give you more thermal capacity, better cooling, better braking force and better modulation. Apart from this better braking force coming from track pads this is a win win solution.
