Lol does that have to be on n mode with rev matching on. Or can you do the pops and bangs in sports mode. I've tried mine but no pops and bangs if idle in n mode it will when parked up but when driving i can't hear no pops and bangs don't know whyWhen you lift off in any gear between 4 and 5k revs it pops and bangs.
I went through a tunnel yesterday and changed from 2nd to 3rd and the bang was so loud a pedestrian screamed

You can get it in custom mode too if you set the exhaust to the sports+ mode no need for rev matching to be turned on but if it is on it will pop and bang on downshifts if it picks the revs up over 4.5k or you could do the old fashioned heel toe technique yourself and it will do the same.
Does it have to have a certain amount of revs before it pops and bangs. As when I put mine in n mode I still don't get no pops and bangs even in n mode or sport plus mode. Must be me doing something wrong dont know.
It needs around 4500 rpm before it pops, usually a double bang if you are straight back on the throttle and it will do a triple bang at higher revs closer to the red line
It's not a constant as it seems to happen more once the car is well warmed up and even then it sometimes doesn't do it, there is probably an algorithm at work somewhere to decide if it's needed as I've been told it's for anti lag on the turbo but I'm not 100% sure that is true?
FWIW, it seems after my oil heats up on track, my pops disappear completely. Out-lap I get pops, first hard lap I get pops, lap two no pops, and literally none until I pit for a session and go back out with a "cool" car. This phenomena as best I've experienced it has led me to want an oil cooler more and more.
Indeed. I'm lately thinking of relegating the N to daily duty, and doing a Stupid Toy Build for trackingIf you're tracking the car regularly you need an oil cooler.
I like my Veloster N a lot. Possibly more than any off-the-shelf car I've owned, but a big part of that IS the comfort of the warranty. My dealer seems cool with light mods, and turning a blind eye to track use, but the more I touch to really have it track-ready, the more I have a chance of a problem
I am sorry for digressing, I'm just feeling a little defeated in my car lately. I'm not slandering it at all, it's awesome, but it's not quite as track-ready as it gets billing for. More than any Hyundai has ever been, absolutely, but out of the box, it is not ready for hard track life.

It’s actually engine in sport + for pops, not the ‘zorst
the pops are due to the engine changing the exhaust valve closing so as to allow unburnt fuel into the exhaust where it combusts generating more pressure to keep the turbo spooled up. It’s a functional feature (as well as fun).
My i30N rumble/pops that much on downshift with engine brake...
Also happends when i´m on a traffic light and the rpm is at 2000rpm and let the throttle off, only rumble/pops.

I bought my i30n just over a week ago (2018, 1 owner, 10k miles),
At the time of buying, there was the engine management light on and that was due to a faulty sensor in the exhaust
Scanned it myself, error code is P0030 (H02S heater control circuit bank 1 sensor 1) , basically a faulty oxygen sensor
The part is supposedly on order for 2 weeks now (the dealer I got it from is in contact with the garage who's ordered the sensor), beginning to get a bit impatient/frustrated.
How it has a faulty o2 sensor with under 10k miles and in great condition I will never know.
The car does not pop or bang, in N mode or custom with exhaust on sport+ or any other mode. My brother has an i30N and it pretty much sounds exactly the same just without the pops.
My question is, would the o2 sensor prevent the car from popping? Or is it unlikely and possibly something else like a valve or something? I don't know too much

A few weeks ago I noticed that I can't produce pops and bangs (those gunshot-like ones) anymore.
The car is at 18kkms and it was always easy to do by lifting off the throttle at 5k rpm. I can still faintly hear the two or three pops when lifting off, but it is very muffled. Like it is happening deep inside the exhaust but not escaping...
So I looked to the exhaust flap, it is always half-open even when switching to full N mode vs normal mode... So I thought it was stuck in half-open mode, but after switching off the car, the flap opened fully, indicating that the flap does indeed work... So now I think the signal for opening the flap is not working well, so I disconnect the flap power cord while it is wide open and test the car to try to produce some pops and bangs ... But it is still muffled...
So now exhaust flap is plugged back in, looks like it opens up as the rpm gets higher or something... But my pops and bangs are gone... I'm going to see if refueling works (I live in South-Africa so might be that they sold me some crap fuel)
Anyone else have any suggestions? Would an ECU reset may e fix it if I take it to the dealer?

Hey man, just merged your thread with an operational one which I hope may assist you.
Your exhaust valve is operating exactly how it is designed to, so don't worry about that. Like what @Clemet has suggested, I suspect fuel quality may be the culprit. Few times a year mine would go quiet a few km after a refill and until I filled up again. That said, sometimes it would just shut up randomly.
In my experience there are a few factors that will impact it's ability to bark (intake temps, air-con on or off, fuel quality, etc.) but even then I also found it to be somewhat unpredictable. I swear it had "moods". Want to exert your dominance and fire a couple of warning shots across the bow of a GTI and it will stay hushed. Want to keep it quiet because you've just downshifted passing cops or entering you own neighbourhood late at night and it will try and imitate a belt-fed machine gun. Mine had that sort of personality.
Hi GazmaN, thanks for the reply. So I refilled about 3 times (95 unleaded) and still no pops or bangs. I took my car to the dealer yesterday and they reset the ECU (to my request) and definitely admitted that the car shouldnt be so muffled (it pops, but like a very muffled version, almost like the low-rpm burbles, but at 5k rpm...) They also checked for holes in the exhaust pipe. They couldnt find any faults on the computer and even after resetting nothing happened.
Technical department has now contacted some other department to hear what the solution may be and what further steps to take. Also test drived the new i30N while I was there and damnnnnn, that thing is loud (may be how mine sounded way back when, but cant even remember anymore)
Strange...but great that Hyundai are actually taking it seriously and trying to trouble-shoot the issue for you.
