Because you are all so nice in cheering the guys outside of EU that are waiting for the release date and prices, I am gonna all reward you with the information from this video. It's quite a wall of text so I hope you enjoy it. I am sorry if something is translated incorrectly, however even google translate had some tough times, to provide me with translation for some of the car parts
Introduction
Sales figures
- Globally - 32.624 cars
- Most cars sold in Germany - over 17.000, second was UK and third Australia
- In Czech Republic - 319
- In Europe around 28.000 sold in total
- Auto Bild Sports Car of the Year 2018
There are 2 hosts during the show
- 1st is development test driver who is collaborating with Korea and Europe HQ (works in Nosovice factory)
- 2nd is Czech Republic product specialist
Weight reduction
- New rims are lighter all together by 14,4 kg - they are being produced by Fuchs
(Fuchs are making legendary rims for Porsche 911)
- Sport N seats - one seat is lighter by 2,2 kg
Test drive
He was mentioning how he was surprised by the first model and how much fun it was when he drove it for the first time. New facelifted model is giving him the same impresion as all of the great stuff stayed and even some things were improved and implemented.
Regarding DCT gearbox, when you switch to manual mode, you can shift as in race car
UP = downshift -> DOWN = upshift.
Even if you hit the rev limiter, it won't upshift for you, but let's you stay in the red zone.
When you switch to sports mode, DCT can shift automatically really fast and smart, or you can use paddles or gear lever.
Based on his opinion, in the hothatch segment, it's one of the best automatic gearboxes.
Thanks to increased power and torque, you can feel the difference especially in the mid-RPMs
Chassis have been slightly improved and car is now turning even sharper and there are bigger brakes, so there is more brake power. Car can drift a bit in the corners (if you want to) or it can go exactly where you point it to.
Performance changes (1st guest)
280 HP / 392 Nm / 5,9s 0-100 / Max speed limited to 250 km/h
Chassis
- Front axle - wheel deflection has been doubled thanks to new stub axle. Therefore understeer in corners is suppressed
- Rear axle - they were working to get it stiffer
there are new silentblocks for better stability and stiffness
new reinforced lower control arms so there is less twisting
stiffer coil springs in front and back - they are now tougher by 0,2 kg/mm
recalibration of adaptive suspension due to new coil springs
- Pano roof - if you pick pano, the rear coil springs are even stiffer, to compensate for higher center of gravity and to eliminate leaning in corners
Engine
- 5 HP increase doesn't look like much, however the engine power flow is completely different due to hardware changes
- Engine block - new cooling oil ducts, so that the engine lasts longer
- Pistons - new design and therefore new compression ratio which is now 9,5:1 (pre-facelift has 10:1)
- Cylinder head - new exhaust valve seats
- Turbocharger - completely new one for better air flow and they changed also the direction of the air flow.
Exhauts gases (turbine wheel) were rotating clockwise, now it's counterclockwise.
Wheels are bigger: Compressor wheel is now 59mm (was 56 mm); turbine wheel is now 52 mm (was 47 mm)
DCT gearbox
- Two independent oil circuits. Each circuit has it's own pump - pumps are independent from engine speed/revs. There is a high flow pump which ensures cooling of clutches and gear train. Second high flow pump is operating at 45 Bar and is controling all 8 solenoids, which are shifting gears
eLSD
- There were done some re-calibrations with regards to DCT gearbox
Brakes
- Brake discs in front are bigger - from 345 mm to 360 mm
Testing
- Testing has been done on several racing circuits (Autodrom Most, Nürburgring, Bilster Berg, Sachsenring), local test track in Nosovice and apart from circuits also across the Czech Republic, they've been in Alps...
Design
- They were discussing changes in design, but I believe there was nothing you can't see for yourself.
- With the 2nd guest afterwards, they are discussing pricing and release of configurator for Czech Republic
Q&A part
Q: Was the manual gearbox upgraded and reinforced? There are issues with the gearbox used in current models all around the world. Also what about the quality of materials used for seats and mats?
A: Yes, the manual gearbox has been modified and improved. (that was it

)
Q: Will there be N division for electric cars?
A: As Hyundai is offering wide portfolio of sports car along with the electric ones, we can exepct that these 2 divisions will cross their paths in the future.
Q: Does facelift have blind spot detection?
A: Fastback doesn't have it. In Hatchback, yes, thanks to rear bumper adjustments it got the sensors which are checking the blind spot. Manual gearbox will have the visual warning, automatic gearbox will have active monitoring
Q: How it looks like with the engine and gearbox longevity?
A: I can answer like this, based on our durability tests in Nosovice, in case of new gearboxes, we are driving them to 100k - 160.000 kilometers, but it's not usual driving, it's very hard driving style. So if we recalculate to "normal driving" it's much much more.
Q: Does it have bigger intercooler?
A: Yes, it's bigger, but I don't know the exact measurements
Q: Are the new wheels forged and how much lighter they are?
A: Yes, they are forged and each wheel is ligher by 3,6 kg
Q: What improvements were made to the brakes? Anything apart from the bigger discs?
A: Apart from bigger discs, there are also now cooling ducts, which are directing the air from beneath of the car, directly to brake calipers to eliminate brake fade
Q: How big is the fuel tank for i30N and i20N?
A: For i30N it's 50 liters, for i20N it's 42.
