Res Delete

Definitely makes the pops louder and deeper and it's an awesome mod for £100 but be careful cutting at the stock system due to potential warranty issues.

I can't speak for Hyundai but my mates Focus ST got his warranty denied due to a res delete. He put the resonator back on but Ford knew he cut the exhaust and the change in back pressure affected the vehicles tune resulting in engine damage. It sounds far fetched but he didn't have the thousands to contest in court. Just something to think about as I don't think there is a bolt in res delete available for the i30N.

I hope Hyundai are a bit more lenient than Ford though.

Without the intention of coming across rude, i simple don't believe that ford refused warranty based on the res delete, there is far more to that story if true,

That's your call :D. A more free flowing exhaust is a proven fact to possibly cause over boost issues on a lot of stock turbo cars which is plastered all over the internet, the stock ECU has no idea what to do with that extra boost pressure which can affect fuel timing when the ECU detects parameters outside of its normal operation. Can also contribute to abnormal turbo wear which was the problem in his case.

That was Ford's detailed response to him which is absolutely true. Can a simple resonator delete change that much airflow ? Most likely not in the real world but did he have $3k to contest that in legal fees and prove it ? Nope.

I engaged with Hyundai care / Geoff Fear before I deleted my res and received the following advice (also in my exhaust / build thread) - gave me confidence to commit

Hi James,

I have spoken to our N Performance specialist Geoff Fear - there is also a N Performance Facebook page which is super informative too!! if your not a member of that its a great group.

The answers i received are as follows: (hoping it makes sense):

The warranty on the Exhaust system would be the only thing that would be void on Warranty all other components would be fine, Back pressure wont be an issue. Geoff stated that others have deleted resonator no issue at all – just a different sound.

Amp & Sub woofers plug and play will have no effect on Warranty, Warranty will only be void wiring is soldered or cut.

Hope this helps!

Thanks

That's pretty much perfect. Good to see the conversation about an amp and sub too, stock system is pretty bad but didn't want to touch it incase it would void the whole electrical warranty.

Not sure about Ford in Europe and the UK but Ford Australia will look for any escape route to deny warranty claims. (anecdotally)

From Brisbane myself I know exactly what you mean. The Focus platform is riddled with issues that's probably why they'll use any reason to deny claims for them.

Hi guys

Any long term detrimental effects of the res delete?

On the Australian i30N Faceballs page, there is some discussion about the resonator removal can cause premature back muffler box failure.

I'm not seeing how this can be possible, apart from some weird harmonics causing the internal baffling to collapse, but has anyone seen this or other ill effects in an N, in the real world?

Ive had mine for 4k miles now and no issues at all yet

My tailpipes are black allot faster with res delete, and people who jump at a bang as it scared them seems to waive back vigorously but not with all their fingers?

It was me who warned people in FB group.
I have experience with bad rear muffler when I installed aftermarket DP with 200cel cat. My exhaust was even still resonated (aftermarket resonator) but it still happened.
I also didn´t notice any remarkable weird noises (during first 3000km) but my exhaust guy told me that rear box makes weird sound already after first 1000km-s. In March he made me new full exhaust and we cut oem rear box half to inspect what was wrong there. Baffles inside of rear muffler where loose and my exhaust guy explained me the reason like this:
Most factory exhaust systems are a compromise between quality and price - Hyundai is pretty cheap car and the build quality of rear box, is not the best. It is good untill nobody will make changes but if resonance will be increased (resonator removed or aftermarket DP will be installed), original rear muffler is not good anymore. Additional resonace will shake baffles loose earlier or later anyway.

Done the res delete today and wow.. can’t believe how much better it sounds, the pops & bangs are ridiculous, it’s so loud! and the burbles at lower revs sounds unreal, love it..

I've installed the German street legal 90mm exhaust system from FMS without res and I love the sound. Much deeper in total and angrier in higher gears ans rev.

I did the res delete a couple of weeks ago and it is awesome!
In N mode it growls and pops when you start up from cold - it sounds like a rally car.
In Normal mode it's just as refined as before so no downside.
Car measured 97DB static at the track day last week in N mode (it was 94 before).
Love the gurgles on the overrun most of all, sounds so deep and aggressive.
