It's pretty significant because it's the first example I know of where a manufacturer, in this case GM, decided to change, and in no small way, the running temp viscosity of the recommended engine oil in response to experienced bottom end bearing damage in engines originally specced to run a light oil, specifically 0w-20. It is a tacit admission that the "lighter" engine oil is not seen by them as adequate to protect their engines under load. There will certainly be some who see this as a vindication of their opinion on what oil ought to be used in high performance engines.
Thanks for your reply I suppose it proves even people gived with intelligence can get it wrong sometimes.

Mine burns nothing, but my driving profile with the i20n is favers non burning oil.
Most of the time the engine speed is quite low.
Autobahn in 6th gear at high speed/rpm very rare.
Also reving till 6000 on B roads quite rare.

Drive it more often in the mid range.

No oil consumption during the last 7000 km

The interests of the manufacturer are the key to unlocking the truth of this matter, they are interested in meeting emission and economy standards while ensuring the engine and transmission lasts for the period of their warranty. That suggests compromise and vehicles designed to last for 100,000km.

My i20N will be 5 years old in October. The engine currently has just under 48,000 kilometers on it. Between the last service and the current one (which was in July), I noticed a slight oil consumption. I’ve driven about 8,000–9,000 kilometers. The oil dipstick read relatively exactly between the mid and max marks.

I shared this information with my workshop. I was told that this is completely within the normal range, even though it didn’t consume any oil for the first 3, maybe 4 years. The owner’s manual also doesn’t mention anything negative about this. If you do a general search online for turbo engines, you’ll find that oil consumption (not oil loss—there’s a difference) is normal.

Of course they will say it's normal because it's still under warranty. Any change signals a cause and in this case it's either now losing oil or burning it. They will say ridiculous things like using 1L of oil every 1,000km is acceptable so to dismiss your concerns was an easy task for them.
The obvious conclusion is that the use of oil will continue to increase over time. If it's not leaking then it's either wear in the bores, pistons, rings or perhaps the turbo leaking oil into combustion or the exhaust.

With only 3 months of warranty left one option is to change the oil and filter now for an ester based real fully synthetic 5w-30 oil. Warm it up carefully each time because that's where close tolerances could be a problem with a real oil but my guess is it wont be a problem.

Take it somewhere else for the next service and think about now servicing at 10,000km and ignoring the time they imposed, not that's there's much difference in your case.

It's your choice what you do but that's what I would do in your position for what it's worth and if the oil consumption stops then you know it was the 0w-20 weak as piss slop that caused it. This is cause for concern for all of us.

Hi guys haven't posted in a while just wondering what persific coolant is required for an i20n I think mine needs topped up.
Also my coolant level is sitting a only very slightly below the minimum mark when up to temperature is this a serious issue if not sorted soon???

I may even loose some coolant because of g-forces, and of course because it will expand a bit when it's getting hot.
