It is a tacit admission that the "lighter" engine oil is not seen by them as adequate to protect their engines under load. There will certainly be some who see this as a vindication of their opinion on what oil ought to be used in high performance engines.

Mine burns nothing, but my driving profile with the i20n is favers non burning oil.
Most of the time the engine speed is quite low.
Autobahn in 6th gear at high speed/rpm very rare.
Also reving till 6000 on B roads quite rare.

Drive it more often in the mid range.

No oil consumption during the last 7000 km

The interests of the manufacturer are the key to unlocking the truth of this matter, they are interested in meeting emission and economy standards while ensuring the engine and transmission lasts for the period of their warranty. That suggests compromise and vehicles designed to last for 100,000km.

My i20N will be 5 years old in October. The engine currently has just under 48,000 kilometers on it. Between the last service and the current one (which was in July), I noticed a slight oil consumption. I’ve driven about 8,000–9,000 kilometers. The oil dipstick read relatively exactly between the mid and max marks.

I shared this information with my workshop. I was told that this is completely within the normal range, even though it didn’t consume any oil for the first 3, maybe 4 years. The owner’s manual also doesn’t mention anything negative about this. If you do a general search online for turbo engines, you’ll find that oil consumption (not oil loss—there’s a difference) is normal.
