My i20N

What was it like on the snow - any grip at all?
Couple of slides a lot of crunching from the slow lock more so than usual, once I got out of Glossop it was really clear. More annoying was it was all for nothing they had cancelled but not informed him( he’s 94 and a very angry person so I took the brunt)

I did a driving course when I was a Paramedic so know how to control slides and stuff. Different when it’s your car though once I had got onto the road it was ok
Mate, I totally understand - for many years I had a rear wheel drive car with no traction control or ABS! When you did your course was that on a skid pad where they wet the surface?
 
Yes had two days on a skid pan and three weeks driving to the system, part of which was learning how to drive fast and safe. Had to do refresher course ever two years too, plus twenty two years of driving on blue lights

To explain the blue, green and red lines. The red is my car with just the exhaust, intercooler and air intake ‘upgrades’ - as you can see, these do very little. The green line is with the DTUK tuning box added. contrary to the many Internet reports stating tuning boxes make no difference, at least in this case, they clearly do. The blue line is the Courtenay Sport remap - the Rev line has also been raised to 7K. This map applies to all modes but to a lesser extent for the less extreme modes (the ECU still hasn’t been sufficiently ‘cracked’ to allow complete access to all aspects of it).
I should be getting my car back tomorrow (Wednesday 22nd) and I can’t wait - I’ll report then how it feels to drive! However, road conditions aren’t very good at present so it will have to be a tentative first drive.

Yes, I’m pleased with the numbers - but more importantly I’m pleased with the curves, the way the power comes in and is maintained - this is what I really hoped for from the tune 👍.

Anyway, bang on time, Jon from Courtenay Sport turned up today to deliver my car back to me. I hadn’t asked him to do this but he insisted - and that’s why you need to deal with a company like Courtenay (it is a 7 hour round drive from my house).
Unfortunately the weather was very poor, grey, greasy and damp. Despite being freshly washed before departure the 3.5 hour motorway drive had rendered my i20N profoundly dirty - such were the conditions. As a result I didn’t get the opportunity to do more than a very casual drive in the local of my house. What I can say is that ‘Normal‘ mode now feels like ‘N’ mode with extra spice and ‘N’ mode is quite mental!
 
Man, I can't wait to get mine done. Might be a few months before I can, unfortunately. I only hope my local tuners can produce similar results.

I’ll try to go for a more spirited drive tomorrow and give you a more detailed report 👍.
I don’t know what the Australian tuners are up to but I would be very interested to know? I do know the Australian i20N fans are really enthusiastic so I’m sure they are up to something with tuning.
 
Update:

Courtenay Tune - the weather is still pretty poor but I’ve still managed to take the car for a bit of a proper thrash, not full attack but 70%. My journey included fast mountain roads and some motorway. Now one complication is that I’m very used to how the car feels when running a 1211DTUK tuning box and the dyno graphs show that already gives quite a significant increase in power and torque. However, despite this the Courtenay tune is still clearly faster and delivers power right up to the red line. In fact the tune is very easy to drive - low speed, when driving around town, is as before but as soon as you put your foot down the car leaps ahead and stays in its power band right to the end of each gears revs. In short, it’s very fast indeed! Fuel economy seems much the same and no engine lights have come on. In short, I’m loving this tune! Oh, I drove a little in ‘Normal’ a lot in ’N’ and most of the motorway was done in ‘Eco’. All modes drive as before, but with everything turned up a bit.

More thoughts - at 255bhp I believe mine is the post powerful i20N in the U.K. (other than any with a different turbo) - but this is on high octane pump gas.The map is also what is often called a ‘stage 2‘. As far as I can see the only difference between stage 1 and stage 2 is that stage 2 involves a new intercooler, air intake and exhaust. But, in reality, these make very little difference and you can get 90% of the benefit with just the map and not bother with the other bits at all.

Powerflex Engine Mounts (black) - those of you who have followed along will know I had previously fitted Powerflex purple bushings to the lower engine mount (the dog-bone mount). Just before the Courtenay tune I changed the bushings to the track spec black version. At the same time I also replaced the other two engine mounts (front left and gearbox support).
The good stuff - gear changes feel super positive and clean - the car feels extremely well planted and responsive.
The other stuff - vibration is greatly increased and, to a lesser extent, so is transferred noise. Personally I rather like both aspects as you feel more in touch with the car. It’s still nothing like a full race car but it’s pretty obvious - especially at startup and low revs.
